Theres always white smoke in the lower rpms. Only when I start the car and then after it warms up its from 0-10 then whenever i first get on it. Any idea? Running lean?

Motor was rebuil 9k miles ago. Im going to do a compression test soon to see wahts up.
Could I be running lean? Blown Turbo? Oil/gas/liquid getting into something? Im clueless.

Usually when I've seen white smoke coming from a car, its the head gasket and your car trying to burn coolant. It usually comes from under the hood as well as exhaust.

I don;t think you would get white smoke from runing lean, it's usually a sign of oil burning. I have about 130,000 on my 1G with the same symptoms, I'm thinking ether valve seals or turbo on mine, I will find out when I put the new turbo on. Smokes on startup, the first time I accelerate from startup or if it idles for awhile, I ran a compression test on mine and it checked out. Couldn't hurt to install a catch can but I doubt it would fix your problem, my guess would be valve seals or turbo, see what some of the more experience guys suggest here, just my 2 cents

Yeah, you are probably looking at bad valve seals which means you are burning oil. I had the same problem on my car.

Can anything esle go wrong if I just leave teh bad valve seals? But if im leaking oil, then it would be blue. So what are the other possibilities.

Mine had white-ish smoke when i fried my piston rings and seals.. Thats generally a tell-tale sign of internal issues involving either seals, valves or piston rings.has it been rebuilt recently?Or has it been a while since Gaskets and seals were changed? If its been a while change The seals, gaskets, piston rings, and if you can afford to.. the valves as well. just an idea.

have any of you ever checked your oil and dripped a little on a hot exhaust manifold? What color is the smoke? It's white. Reason I am saying this is because I blew a turbo and had white smoke that was a result of burning oil. It wasn't getting into the combustion chambers and burning that way it was burning when it came in contact with the hot exhaust parts inside the turbine housing. I always thought that oil was always blue and I guess it is when it burns in the combustion chamber but when it touches a hot surface it just makes white smoke.

Unburnt oil can sometimes seem whitish. Instead of guessing, the best thing to do is to check your licp and ic for oil and do a wet/dry compression test and go from there.

If its the turbo there would be other signs of it going bad like it not holding boost as strong or all the way to redline.

You should have a buddy drive behind you while boosting to see if you smoke a lot between shifts. Ive been through a few t25s and that was their first sign of death.

What about a blown headgasket? Im doing a compression test and going to see how that turns out. I started teh car up and just mashed it. Letting it bounch off the 5500 studderbox, and no smoke? LOL wtf.

My car started shooting white smoke when I floor it once I got rid of the cat. Oil and coolant levels are fine. Generally speaking white smoke is coolant and blue smoke is oil. The way to tell is to beat on the car for 10 minutes straight. If by then it's still white I'd bet money its not oil being burnt. As for the headgasket .. do a compression test.

Oh and I've always heard that if you are extremely lean you will get white / gray smoke. Never personally ran lean enough to get that but it could be a possibility.

and yes it goes like this

1:white smoke out the tail pipe=coolant, and it stinks-not sweet

2:whiteblue smoke = OIL

3:grey smoke=under hard accel=good to lean, lean for turbo cars good for n/a cars

4:black under hard accel= to much to good for turbo to "fat" for n/a cars

the reason for the smoke not comming out of the exhaust up off of idle is because the cylinder pressure is grater than the coolant pressure the coolant could be seeping in to the chamber at ide until the moter is reved thuse stopping the smoke i would get a 1: coolant pressure tester hook it up pump it up ti about 16 to 17 psi(when the engine is cool) 2: remove the spark plugs 3: wait for about 10 min 4:have a buddy crank the car 5: you watch for water coolant to come rushing out of the spark pluge holes(WATCH YOUR FACE USE SAFTEY GLASSES!!!!!) if no water comes out than do a comp check the cyl shuld not be more than a 10 to 15 % diffrence btween cylinders, and if water comes out pull the head for a new gasket

did a compression test..

150,145,140,140.. last two motor was getting cold.. I put a small small small bit of oil in the 4th one and it went from 140 to 150.. rings.. So should is my motor a stong running motor or should I get rid of it?

Pull the intake off and check the turbo for play up-down and in-out, could be bad, happen to mine, smoked when I'd first make boost then go away untill the next day after setting for 12 hours or more.

I have exact same problem ATM. When car was standing for like 2 days i start it very little white smoke comes out of exhaust. After dirving it for about 10 min (normally even) its fine no smoke at all. But then my Main o2 Sensor is fried so my car EATS through gas and prob running lean. I really hope it’s only my O2 sensor. I am wiating for my 2.5" O2 housing to come from SBR and putting my new main O2 in it with new FPB 28 Turbo. I hope this will eliminate the probem...

Mods I have ATM

Turbo Back (2.5” DP, 3” Cat, 3” turbo back), intake, Greedy Type S BOV (stock IP but getting all hard with FMIC very soon). Everything else is stock and I am running the car on 94 octane from Sunoco

Edit
My power steering is also gone (Barings and its on the angle) but getting new one soon

i would give it the water pump cuase mine is giveing white smoke and my water pump is gone and it has been sitting....has ures well thats my opinion u shure its white smike other than that i would give head gasket for a guess.... :talon: :talon:
