Hey all just wanted a few opinions from those with experience. I currently hae a big16g in perfect condition but want to upgrade, and am in a little dilema here.

Im not sure, or if it really matters, which is better to have as for power and streetability. Im currently running 12's at the track right now, but cant on the street as I only get 91 octane and run much lower boost. I want a 20g just to be able to run 12's on the street and be able to go to the track and hit an 11. Ive been doing mid 12's with my 16g lately and dont know how much more I can do with it. SO I would like to upgrade to a 20g. Ive heard a lot of good things about them, but dont know if I should go with a tdo6 or a tdo5. I can have my turbo built in to a 20g which Im sure you guys know about for roughly 350-450$. Im just not to sure if keeping the tdo5 housing and turbine wheel will be superior for overall power. From what I understand it will help a bit with spoolup, but I have no experrience with these turbos. Im sure I could sell mine for a deent price and get a new tdo6 20g for roughly the same, so what do you guys think.

My goal is really only to tough an 11, or really just be a bit quicker on the street. Id love to have it as drivable as possible, by that I mean spool up. If a tdo5 can typically push as much power as a tdo6 and there arent really reliability issues (cant think of why there would be since its all mitsu stuff anyway) I assume just go with the upgrade... what do you all think. And please only respond if you have experience with either of these turbos. Thanks in advance:thumb:

Well thats not the answer Im looking for =). I know Ill be abel to sell it and ill post when I do sell it. Oh well hehe

i cannot answer the question but i got one of my own on topic. i had a 16g and bought a 20g the person installing it says some tube (i think an collant tube/radiator hookup) is on top on my 16g on the 20g its on the bottom. is there a peice of flexpipe i need to buy or did i get the wrong turbo sent? ps i cant get in contact w/ slowboy where i ordered it cuz the in las vegas. grrrrr can anyone help? if you need more info plz ask i try to explain as best i can
thanks in advance

Hes talking about your compressor housing. On the 16g it is in the tock location and depending on IC setup or whatever you may need a J pipe so it will come down to hook to the LICP. I assume you have a FMIC if you have a 20g, so you shouldnt need anything, its just that the J pipe was eliminated now because the 20g comp housing exits where the 16g housing did with the J pipe... your fine

i do not have a fmic yet. do i need this j pipe where can i get it? should i have got the pipe with the turbo?

Well you should have gotten a FMIC if you got a 20g...thats a little to big to run a stock IC still. You better be carteful. Youll need to get a pipe that will run from the bottom of your comp housing and connect to the ic pipe. Ive never seen anyone run anything bigger than a 20g and still have the stock smic.... so Im not to sure. Why dont you just trade me your turbo?

And someone please answer my question.... hehe

oh a j pipe usually will run from the comp on the 16g and point it towards the bottom so its like a 20g. The j pipe wont fit on a 20g, and if it did it wouldnt clear the radiator fans. Youll probably have to get an elbow welded on the housing so it will point towards the ic then you can get a simple connecting pipe

Sell your 16G and go with the TD06. If you go with the TD05, get the wheel clipped. TD05 will lack the top end that the TD06 has. It may spool up a little slower, maybe 200-300 rpms or so, but will be worth it when it kicks you in your a$$. I have the TD06 and I hit full spool by 3800rpms pulling well past redline. With a dying alternator and battery and completely FUBAR coil and plug wires, I still ran a 12.6@112 on pump at 21psi. On race gas, I plan to run mid-high 11s when all is tuned up perfectly. In comparison, I have a couple friends with the TD05 20G that have run 12.5@110 on pump and another went 11.5@119 on race.

Whichever you choose will be perectly streetable. Do what is in your budget.

When did you upgrade Rich, I thought you were 16g guy. ANyhow thanks for the input, thats what I was thinking. Just got a few more questions for you. Did you port clip the 20g and where did you get it from? Are you still using the same tuning equipment? I have 550's, afc/logger and think it will be enough for a while. I know the 550's will be enough unless I run a lot off boost, but how does your car run overall with just the safc? Thanks,

Austin

I was a 16G guy but wanted more. I got mine from SlowBoyRacing. It is the TD06 20G with the 39mm internal wastegate. I chose him because I wanted to remain internally gated, saving the ears of my neighbors (and not give them another reason to call the cops) since I am already in the sh!thouse with them due to my car being loud as it is and my friends doing burnout up and down the road. The wheel is unclipped and I the only porting done is to the step where it mates to the exhaust manifold.
Along with the turbo I upgraded to 650 injectors and Supra fuel pump and installed a new oil feed line. I am, and have been running the VPC/AFC combo. I had 550s, but I was running out of fuel at 18psi on pump so I upgraded. My car always ran really lean for some stupid reason though. I have friends who still run 550s, although their injectors are maxxed out. They just run insane fuel pressure.
Overall the turbo is awesome. Very streetable. The 16G did spool quicker, but that is all it has on the 20G. The 20G runs comparable numbers on pump and 20psi than my 16G did on race at 24psi, and that is with all the stupid ignition issues I am currently having.

THanks very much. I have a big deal with Mike @ slowboy right now, and I really like how he handles his sh!t. I think hes a great guy, and definetly think Ill be going with him in the future for that turbo. Plus I want an internal also =)

do either of you know if mike is back from vegas yet? my turbo also came from him i got a 20g td05 internal 38 mm flapper and i agree mike knows what he is doing

When I hit the 12.7 I was running 21psi
12.6- 23psi
12.5- 23psi

I need to update my profile. My mph never went over 110 though...

Candela, did your boost drop off up top? Evryone was telling me the 16G wouldn't hold that to redline. Mine did for some reason. Makes me wish I didn't blow the trans so quick. I would've liked to have gone faster on the 16G.

it held 22psi until redline every time. It seemed to hold 23 until about 6000 though

hey candela, you asked me once before if i would sell my 20g. was just wondering if you still wanted it or not. it is a td06 ported and clipped 15.
pm me and make me an offer. i'm trying to get something bigger
