so i got off work today and i turned my car on and noticed a loud ticking noise right below my intake manifold ... it was loud at first while the car was cold and at a red light i noticed it quiet down a little bit as the temperature rose to normal ... i didnt do anything else to the car except an oil change today, and noticed it after the change... any ideas ? :dsm:

The infamous "DSM lifter tick". Order a revised set of lifters and install them ( or have them installed) with a new valve cover gasket.

Ahhhh he beat me to it!

I hesitated cuz you have a pretty long list of mods... so I was sure that you had heard of "lifter tick" before.... or you have a different problem.... could possible be "clutch chatter" ... sometimes clutch noises can bounce off the engine bay from different angles. If you listen underneath the tranny you can hear where it actually is coming from. Not sure if that's it... but you may want to search those terms to find out some more info.

yeah im pretty sure the source of the chatter is directly below the intake manifold ... my brother has a 3kgt vr-4 and his lifters are ticking louder than a grandfathers clock ... heh... anyway i have a jeep wrangler which makes a similar noise, but that is the tranny - - - whenever i push the cluch down to the floor the noise stopps, i tried it in my case and the noise was still there . . . so im assuming its not the tranny - - - on a second thought . . . is there any danger with loud lifters ? why did it happen between oil changes ? . . . am i okay to drive with this noise (as long as im not annoyed by it???) thanks guys :dsm:

when you cahage the oil next time put an additive in with it... i prefer to use the lucas oil additive.. mine was REALLY bad before and when i changed it it didnt go away but it definitely does it less and not as loud. :thumb: . also you should check your oil level.. they tend to tick when your low... as for the jeep, that sounds like a throwout bearing...
