SAFC II causing car to run in higher RPM's!!!

Hey guys,

I just installed my SAFC II yesterday, and I got all the wires correct and did the setup correctly before starting my car. I took it out for a test drive and I noticed that my RPM's jumped up higher than normal. For example, on the highway, I will be driving at 70 mph and my RPM would read about 3000 RPM's (before the SAFC). But after installing the SAFC, at 3000 RPM's, my car would only do 50 mph. And it would take 4000-4500 RPM's to reach 70 mph. Is this normal? I have not tuned the SAFC yet because my fuel system is still stock. Please help me out. Thanks.
 
RPMs to MPH ratio is determined by the transmission and what gear it's in.

This can not be affected by the SAFC unless something is majorly screwed with the ECU or the wiring.

Have you made sure that the throttle position sensor (TPS) is wired and adjusted properly? This may keep you from dropping into overdrive if it's screwed up.
 
My dads old legacy did this, it wouldnt shift up past its 3rd gear and had to be pretty high in the rpms to get it to shift 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd. Ended up that some sensor in the tranny was being grinded away because there was alot of random metals floating around in the tranny, the tranny decided to eat itself i guess. I suppose it wasnt getting enough lube or something like that.....maybe thats what has happened to yours.
 
If your car is automatic, like the symptoms hint towards, it is a great possibility that you have your mas wires mixed up, (pink and orange). When i had mine mixed up, my car went into limp mode and wouldent shift into overdrive i believe. I would suggest checking your wiring, and let us know from there.
 
Yes, my car is an automatic. But, no, I did not mix up the pink and the orange wires. I double checked several times. The pink one is the one closer to the ECU and the orange is the one further away. Unless the manual is wrong, I still don't know what's going on. Thanks for the replies guys. Please give other suggestions.
 
since you are automatic and now your car is doing 4k+ @ 70mph?
make sure you are in D4 and not D3. something is causing your overdrive to come on?? or your tranny is screwed and not shifting up a gear?

i think the problem is your wiring. but just to make sure if its safc related, unhook ur safc and do another highway run.
 
Make sure its warm enough out that your torque converter is locking up. These car postpone TQ lockup until they get warmer. Mine would not lock the TQ for a while some cold mornings or on my way to work in the winter for a 20 min drive. I have a MT now so that problem is gone. You should drop 500+ RPM's when the TQ locks.
 
I've experienced this same situation although mine is an manual. However, my problem was with my TPS. Try adjusting the throttle cable or TPS.

hhmmm.....for some reason i dont think your experiencing this problem, have experienced it or will ever experience this problem.

I am such an idiot. My overdrive button got pushed in and I've been driving with it off without even knowing it. I guess I pressed it by accident while installing the SAFC. The problem is my overdrive indicator light does not light up for some reason; that is why I did not know that I was driving with it off. I think the bulb burned out or something, because I pressed the button and now my RPM's are back to normal. Thanks for the help guys.
