If you passed emissions with Aft. exhuast

My friend passed on his 93 tsi awd in MD. He had a 3" ATR turbo back with no cat, a walbro 255, and no AFPR.

i passed the smog test here in CALI, smog capital of the world with my dsm. had a 3in downpipe, random tech. cat, thermal R&D 3 in catback. they were from HRC to is was all bolt on for me.

You should pass fine. As long as all of your emission parts are all on and is in good working order. I didnt have a regular smog, i had a test only smog which was alot worst. but i still pass with a front mount and a 3" exhaust,

passed perfectly with a 2.5inch down pipe to a 3inch exhaust, no cat. When they looked at the car i told them that the cat was in the downpipe. they just nodded and kept testing.

edit...
Oh, and i believe it is an apex'i n1 exhaust system, but im not sure cause it came with the car. it does sound and look like one though.

I passed way under spec with 2.5" turbo back, high flow cat and EGR block off.

johnk, do they do a visual inspection of then engine compartment in MA, or just the sniffer test? do they run it on rollers, or idle?

thanks,
mike

I put the block off plate in place like a gasket so the egr is still there. Not sure about a visual but I would say we are definitely less anal than cali if that's where your going.

I run AWD so they just do idle and high idle sounds like 2500-3000 rpms but I can't watch them do it because of insurance issues for the garage.

Just an FYI, the type of exhaust you have on has nothing to do with emissions with the exception of the catalytic converter.

hey, i live in missouri and i had no problems w/ my exhaust Apex-i N1 w/ 3" GT downpipe no cat full racing exhaust but thats down here i don't know about you up there but i had no problem what so ever they were more amazed that the apexi system didn't have any welds

"Post your experiences with Emissions laws in your state"

Check that thread out.

just so this doesnt get closed... i feel its important to notice the difference between the two threads. this one is asking for the exhaust mods (brand, size, etc) that people have passed with, and the other one is about all sorts of emissions stuff.

Well, 2.5" Buschur dp with a Greddy catback. I have a test pipe but throw on a cat for emissions. I think the cat might actually be stock, I don't think the previous owner bought a high flow one since he lived in an area with no emission testing. So that being said, if others have done it get a test pipe and use your stock cat, or buy a new one that isn't a highflow since you won't really need it except to do the emissions.

Edit: The cat I use we put on my brother's car that has a full 3" Apexi N1 system so I know it will work.

I live in Mo as well,so if you pass ith no cat then i guess i could too. Im gettin an apexi world sport and hopefully a n1 or gt downpipe soon after.

ok the point is in california i dosent matter which exhaust you have no matter how big or small it is. Just as long as you have your catylac converter and its healthy enough to clean and filter the gas that your exhaust produce. Trust me i been to a test only center which is as strick as it can get in calfornia. Oh one more thing make sure all your hoses are intact no tees
to boost guage and make sure your have a carb numer for all your engine mods that you are not planing to take off.
