Since the weather has gotten cold where I live, my car modding for this year is about over. However, once the weather gets warm in 2003, I've got a cold air intake, 3" intake, 3" downpipe and cat back with high flow 3" cat picked out. My question is whether or not to go with a ported Big T28 and port my stock manifold or go with the EvoIII port manifold with a ported Big16G and supporting kit. The Big 16G is slightly bigger than the T28 and is cheaper on it's own, but getting everything to make it work in the end is going to make it more money. Is it worth is to go Big16G or are the two turbo's about the same? The T28 will spool faster and is direct bolt on to the existing 2G but I think the Big16G has a higher HP ceiling as well as the ability to push more boost. Let me know, fellas.. Thanks!!

I'm loving it so far. At 13 psi it pulls twice as hard as the T-2small did at 16 psi. I'm getting fuel cut anything over 14 psi, so this thing is flowing serious air.
I see you have your intake and exhaust situated. You will need the fuel and intercooler as well to fully exploit this turbos capabilities. :thumb:

That rox!! The spring cannot come any sooner!!

The AGP L1R should be available soon as well-- I can't wait to see how it does. The hype surrounding it makes it sound really sweet (of course). I am leaning toward either it or the L2R.

Agp has the good deal for like 2 or 3 more days for the T28 thats 360hp spools fast like the t2 small

yeah, I've been waiting for the AGP L1R as well myself. I hear pretty good things about it so far. I just picked up a GS-T after my RS was stolen, stripped and torched.....How soon is the L1R coming out anyway? All and all, it's gonna be that or a ported T28. I'll be satisfied with 12s and a crazy fast spool-up.

I was waiting for the AGP L1R as well, but my T2small decided to crap out on me a few weeks ago. I was going to go with the Big28, but then the banner for turbocharges.com popped up with the bigT28 killer deal. I don't like to be the same as everyone else, so figured I'd try the killer. In the last week of driving it, the boost characteristics changed a bit... for the better. The boost threshold starts about 2,000 building 5-6 psi then 2,800 full boost (only) 14 psi. I'm really impressed how quick this thing spools with the big16G wheel. The L1R is going to be sick. I can't imagine how quick that thing is going to spool. For comparison, my GS-T has a 20G with all of the supporting mods. I start to build boost about 2,600 with full boost, 19 psi coming in at 3,400.

In my opinion, a small or big 16g is the way to go if you are looking at 300-350 HP potential. It is a simple turbo, that provides you the ability of making a lot of good usable HP. I for one, do not like a turbo that spools as fast as a t25 :) That just stinks being in the boost just driving around town....

Now, with that being said, if you want a turbo that spools almost as fast as a big16g, but makes GOBS more power, look at the small GT 30 based turbo like the GT10 or L1R.

The GT10 here in the picture uses a special back plate to utilize the 3" mitsu compressor cover. Why? Bolt on is simple and easy. No denting the water pipe!

Yea, I have been waiting for the L1R to come out as well. They keep saying it will be out soon, but then it doesnt come out! I think I am just going to get the Big 28 because I am tired of waiting.

I just helped fellow DSMtuners member Ricardo install his AGP T28 a few days ago on his 96 GS-T A/T. I haven't ridden in the car since we put the new turbo in, but he absolutely loves it so far. And that's with an exhaust leak or two, and running only 11 PSI. Maybe boost leaks too, but we haven't had a chance to do the leak test yet. He says the much stronger top end is the most noticeable difference from the T-25, but that should come as no surpise.

Wowzers, that baby is 1300.00.. A tad more than the 750.00 they are gonna charge for the Big T28 Killer.. I had very small goals at first, now I can see the way things are gonna go, It might end up being twice or 3 times what I expected to throw into this car... I hate you guys!! ;) No, wait, my wallet and bank account hate you guys, I love this stuff!!! :thumb:

I hear what you are saying, but there is too much to throw into adding the 16G and the Big 16G because of the kit and additions you have to add. I mean, new manifold, adapter kit for the IC and oil and water lines, all that is $400.00+ on top of the $690.00 for a ported Big16G. However, if I am way off base let me know. I should have specified, direct bolt on is very important... IMHO, less to go wrong with direct bolt on.

Here is the way it goes. You will need a new oil feed line for whatever turbo you buy to have a warranty on the turbo... So that is about $50.00. Add that to the top of your t28... Then, you are not getting a new turbo.......

You do not need a new manifold for a 16g! Who said that???

There are many of us that sell a complete instll kit for a 16g for around $200.00. You do not need new water lines either :)

The kit includes new oil feed, J pipe, everything you need to easily install this guy.

How easy is it to install a 16g on a 2g? We charge $100.00 here at my place to do it. Sounds pretty straight forward, and bolt on to me!

Mike Huml

The 2G install kit for 16G\Big16G is a piece of cake to get installed !
Don't ever let anyone tell you different .

I guess I am looking on the wrong site. RoadRaceEnginnering charges 325. + the porting charge for the manifold + the kit + 690 for the Big16G. I guess I was looking in the wrong spot.. :D Anyway, I got some thinking to do before the spring...

I decided not to. That car is finally running perfect with the PMS. I don't want to rip into it. LOL. I'll probably order the injectors next week. How much for a 190 pump? PM me if you can. ;) Looks like Gruppe-s has the best price on the S-AFC. :thumb:
