is it possible to port the intake side of the head w/o pulling out the head or motor? i think the exhaust side would have a bit more room, but has anyone ever done it like that for the intake side? i plan on gasket matching it up with a 1g intake manifold.

Not a very good Idea, as you will change the angle at which the air enters the head and may actually decrease performance, beside the stock 2g head and intake mani have gone deep into the 11's...maybe even faster

all engines love little chunks of metal flying around in them scratching the cylinder walls  pull the head off if youre gonna do it

and what are the drawbacks if i upgrade the intake manifold w/o port matching the head. will i see any gains from that at all? because i don't really have the money, and i don't really want to pull the head out if i don't absoluely have to.

Dont port match the 1g Intake Manifold to the 2g head. The design of the 2g head is almost perfect the way it is. Gasket matching it will greate a "hump" the air will need to get over to get to the valves... You *might* have a better top end, but low and mid range will suffer.

Spend the money on either an Aluminum Intake Manifold or a nice set of HKS cams.

And if your still stuck on porting your head, please take it out of the car, unless you want an excuse to rebuild your engine.

Just my .02

Putting a bigger intake manifold on a head with smaller runners will just create turbulence and probably decrease HP. That and the simple fact that you are not coming close to the 500hp+ that head can take.

Finally, (not trying to be a dick) I doubt you are capable of even porting a 2G head correctly, even if it was off. Just belling out the runners would not do a damn thing because deeper in the bowl area will still be the same size. My 2G head is finally juat about done, and I've been porting with a die grinder and aggressive CARBIDE bits for about 9 hours total.

Grab a Magnus Intake Manifold meant for a 2G nad then you gain some nice HP.

what about porting the inlet and outlet of the exhaust manifold, turbo inlet and outlet, and o2 housing then? any drawback doing that? any drawbacks of doing the exhaust manifold runners w/o doing the same on the head?
