I am doing major work on my car (97 gs-t). I am looking for a simple bolt on turbo kit. I like the sounds of the EVOIII. My question is, how many of you are running it, and what kind of actual power (WHP) am I to get? My goal is from 360-420 whp.

Thanks in advance! :)

I think that the majority of people who respond to this thread are going to tell you to go for a 50 trim rather than the Evo. The Evo is good for some 300 -350 whp runs but it probably wont get you to your goal. The Evo will more than likely be maxed out in your goal and it will be running outside of it's efficieincy range.

I made 294whp with 20psi on my evo III 16g with 20psi (with an okay tune). I recommend something a little larger like a 50-trim (which I have now). That will get you to your goal on pump gas. Good luck!

It seems that 9 ou t of 10 cars running the EVO16G make right in the neighborhood of 300whp. Some make more but it is not the normal output by Joe Shmoe.

id recomend the green as well. its a bit pricey, but it will help you accomplish your goal of ~400 horses. i will be going green this summer myself in hopes of running low 12s, high 11s.

Thanks guys!!!
WOW...I guess I have been bull shitted from some vendors  . Good to know.

THANKS ALOT :thumb:

I don't think you've been bullshitted by vendors at all; at least not if you've read threads on the turbo before, and read vendors' input to those.

The EvoIII 16g makes around 300 whp on most people's cars. Then again, most people don't have aftermarket cams, most people don't tune at a professional level, and many (such as myself) are not running injectors big enough to take full advantage of the turbo's power.

Can you make 350 whp on pump with this turbo? Maybe...probably not...it would certainly be at the very end of its abilities. I agree that you should go with a 60 trim if you want 400 hp or so on pump gas. If you will settle for 300-320 hp on pump gas, the EvoIII may not be a bad turbo for you.

I would go with a green, it has been proven to make great power on pump gas.

Making high 300s, lower 400s fwhp on pump with a green isnt an everyday thing. There are some guy on here that have done it yes but its not the norm. He is gonna have a lot easier time of it on a 60-1.

i think with a green and cams and good tuning you can hit 400whp. not 100% sure, but if you can get a 16g to hit 300-320 or so, i think you can hit high 300s if not low 400s with cams.

i dunno, my goal is low 12s, high 11s, and i think the green can get me there. i think if the original poster takes a look at the turbos in the 1/4 mile times and compares the turbos there with the time he is looking for then he might be able to figure out what he wants.

First take the list of turbos ranging from the $900 range up up thousands and thousands that have made 400whp and more on a DSM. Decide on if this goal is on pump or high octain fuel. Learn what lbs/min is needed to to meet your goals, then pick a turbo that can support that. Then narrow your list down eliminating turbos that don't meet your needs or excede them by far. Don't rely on people to just tell you what to get because 9 times out of 10 you won't be happy with someone elses choice.

very well said

It can be done with a lot of expensive supporting mods-and has been done by a few including myself. It is not easy though. You would need 1g heads-4 lbs more than the 2g heads, cams, at least a 1g intake if not a smim, 650 injectors, frontmount, dsmlink for tuning and very low ambient air temps. Slowboy did it at only 22 psi on race gas and with a built 2.4 motor with a 1g intake. Water/alcolhol injection would help with the tuning as well. If you don't want to mod this extensively, then go with one of the turbos these guys suggested. Good luck with your choice

you could just put a 100 shot of juice on there and a intercooler chiller if you want. LOL

just an idea but i would go with something more reliable like a bigger turbo.

If you know what you are doing and have all of the supporting mods in place a 50 trim will hit that goal. After my second DSm (16G car) I told myself I would never go smaller than a 20G/50trim again on a street car. Picked up my current car and went with a Green and couldn't be happier. I am within your hp goal window with all of the normal supporting mods on pump gas on my everyday, to the supermarket tune. I don't ever regret going larger than a 16G on a street car.

Tell you what. I see alot of other companies 50 trims having problems. I dont' recall ever once of hearing a green go out due to manufacturers error or sub par materials.
