Turbo to N/T ECU's: Changing EPROM chips

I did some searching, but no convincing info. I've got several badly damaged EPROM turbo ECU's laying around and need to get some vehicles on the road.

I'm interested in what people can tell me about the commonality of the ECU's. Between 1.8., 2.0 and 2.0T. If they were all EPROM can the chips be simply swapped? (I realize the need to socket it first, so consider it done already) If I had an EPROM NT 1.8 ECU and plugged in a chip from the blown 2.0T ECU, would it work. Or is there code in the main chip on the board specific to each motor. (ie on what chip are the fuel curves on?)
 
As far as 1g 2.0l ECUs go.Year for year, PCBs are identical, the turbo versions have additional hardware to run BCS, FP solenoid, boost gauge, low impedance injectors, etc.Can't say I've ever seen a 1.8 ECU, so I don't know on that one.As far as Eproms go, I've only seen 1 N/T Eprom ECU, and I have very large amount of 2.0l DSM ECUs come through my hands.Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Wouldn't the above parameters you listed be controlled by the EPROM? What about the fuel maps, etc? What are they on? EPROM or main chip?


What does anyone know about the main chip on the PCB? (Not the EPROM) What is controlled by this chip?
 
Nope, he ment hardware. The board is the same but how it's populated is different depending on it's use. Most of the 2.0L NA's don't have the additional module for the knock circuitry, they use different parts in the injector circuit, don't have the 2 additional M5269L driver chips, and are strapped differently. Those things are in addition to the different software.

On EPROM ECU's all the code and maps are in in the EPROM. On the masked ROM ECU's everything is inside the CPU.
