BBK 62mm throttle body

I know a few guys that have used the larger (70mm+) BBK TBs and they suck. Everyone that I know that ran them have snapped the TB shaft. I cant imagine the smaller one being any better. Personally I wouldn’t look to upgrade the TB until I replaced the intake manifold.

We went thru 4 of the 70mm BBK's on Polk's green car. At $250ea we were pissed. Switched to the Accufab and haven't had a problem. The shaft broke every time on the BBK's. Called them to see about getting them to warranty/fix them and they said it happened all the time and that it was only $50 to fix.

We tried to make sure that it wasn't user error or poor installation causing the problems too. Don and I talked about the infamous "throttle stop isn't right and you're breaking the shaft w/ too much pedal pressure" theory b4 we did a dyno run. He rolled into the throttle very easy and held the throttle at roughly 95% open (4.5V vs the 4.8V max at WOT on the car). When he let off the throttle the thing broke. He didn't slap it closed either, he had just started to ease off the pedal and it broke the shaft on that TB.

If you look at a broken shaft on the BBK you realize the problem. It's a cheap, porous metal. The Accufab is stainless.

Your choice tho. We weren't the first DSMers to figure this one out. Doubt we'll be the last either.

How did you deal with the TPS issue? Did you use the Mustang TPS?

Can you use the IAC from a mustang?

I need to know your opinion on it.

I'm using the BBK throttle body that I got from Summit.
It's 62mm and designed for a 2G turbo engine. I have my
intake many ported to 62mm also. The performance gain
is very impressive, but I don't like the quality. I have had
two of these now (the first one I returned). The spring they
use to keep the throttle plate closed is very weak and it would
stop at different rpm positions while driving and idle when you
let off the gas. Drove me nuts until I added external springs of
the throttle arm to add tension to keep it closed. The factory spring
has twice the tension and closing power. In addition, if you add to
much tension the throttle plate will bind two one side in the TB bore.
Not very well engineered in my book...
