i was intersted in lightening my 94 GSX as much as possible i planned on removeing the AC i was wondering what else anybody could reccomend the removal of that would lighten my car... Also i used to own VW and in that there was a signifcant amount of sound deadening sand kinda stuff under the carpet about 50lbs do dsm's have that i havent looked yet...:confused:
 
Yes there is sound deadning material...
Remove the obvious interior, misc. brackets/bolts, front and rear bumper supports, spare tire/jack, a/c, abs, all emissions related components, lighter wheels, stereo, a/c mounting brakcets, rear panels and speakers blah blah
 
The sound deadening in a DSM only weighs a few pounds total. Not worth the PIA & cussing if you ask me.
 
there are braces in the door that equal about 80 or so pounds they come out kinda easy.

only do this to a track car with cage
 
Here is what I have done:

Removed A/C System

Converted to mechanical steering rack

Got rid of front and rear bumper - rear bumper is pretty simple but if you get rid of the front you will need something to support the cover.

Got rid of the front factory seats and ALL factory seatbelts - I switched to 12lb racing seats and harnesses, all together they weigh less than one factory front seat. You would also be surprised at what just the factory seatbelts weigh.

Got rid of rear speakers

Got rid of rear antenna motor

Got rid of rear windshield wiper

I used to have my back seat out but I put it back in, you know, just for fun. Keep the car looking semi normal. It doesn't weigh all that much.

Other than misc. brackets I think that's about it. Other stuff that you may consider but probably won't do:

Glass/Fiber hood

Rear hatch glass - oh my fu@king god, that thing is heavy, if you could convert it to lexan that would be huge.

Inner front door support beams - these can be cut out.

In my opinion the sound deadener is not worth the time. All of it weighs under 9lbs I think.
