hey all, i picked up a hks ssq bov for my car, and ive been now hearing alot of mixed opions about it, ive heard that it blows turbos, that it leaks, and that its just all around shitty, but then ive heard that its an awesome bov. so i want to hear it from people that have the valve, i dont want to search and read up, i was some responses please, just let me know how u feel about it.

well searching u can read tons of responses without creating another of the exact same thread but.

It doesnt blow turbo's. Incorrectly set it may cause surge but thats the user. All bov's can leak. But when it starts leaking you need to look at. And its a fine bov.

Now go install it and have fun.

thank u for the quick response, all im waiting for is the 1g adapter to come in and im all set

HKS SSQV is a good bov.. But i heard there is alot of problem after you install it to your car... Like running rich... etc... But tell you the truth my friend has VW and he has it on his car... I mean vw community dont believe on BOV because there is alot of bad opinion about it but my friends car with HKS SSQV feel fine and no problem at all.. About the leak if you install it correct there shouldnt be any leaking. I mean if you have it try to install and see how you like it. Some people actually get lucky and they have no problem... Wish you the best of luck and ill going with HKS SSQV when i get the money to afford it.. :thumb:

the car will stumble and run rich if you vent it without a maft, vpc, or standalone setup. Thats not the bovs fault, but the user's for trying to do it.

You should have just searched, your being lazy...
Just curious, but where have you heard mixed things about the HKS from, did they own it, or did they buy a cheap knockoff on ebay?

Also which HKS ssq or you talking about too? There two diffrent ones that HKS made, a metal one, and plastic metal one? The plastic ones are older and not as reliable.

I have the newer HKS SSq, It kick's Ass! 2 years now and not a problem.

yes i have the metal one, and ive heard this from the car club that i am in, CCDSM, www.ccdsm.net

i just wanted to hear it from other people besides ppl i already know, thank you guys

i have one i bought about 2 years ago, all metal, works great. ran like shit when it was vented before, but now that i have the maft everything is peachy. i just got the universal piece since i had to custom make piping anyways.

Hey guys, i wanted to post a reply about the bov, i installed an hks and i am atmosphereinga nd i have am having no problems at all! tell me this is so? am i just lucky or something?

My opinion the HKS SSQV is the best BOV you can get. If it's to small use 2 of them. The 1G BOV is also a very very good BOV once you get it to where you can adjust it and have it not leak at high boost.

Just install it and set it to soft and kept going harder with it. Once you start to flutter take it back some and you are all set.

most likely yes, most people that run it vented without a maft, vpc, or standalone setup tend to run into idle problems and running rich, also a noticable loss of power. Even though it might not seem like it you will most likely have a happier engine/ turbo setup if you run recirculated.

I have Greddy IC pipes, does anyone know where the adaptor can be found?

well my experience with the HKS ssq:

I bought the BOV, TURBO, WASTEGATE and some other things. new and at the same time.
the BOV worked great, or at least thats what I thought, then my turbo broke after just 4 months. when I took it for repairs the guy said it went bad cause of the BOV. then he said It was probably an hks ssq. WTF and he explained how the bov didn't let all the pressure out and some of it would return to the turbo and force the impellers to turn back. bla bla bla...

so I guess its a good bov, it never leaked, i boosted high boost. but it has its bad thing. maybe installing 2 bov's solves this. but thats not for me.

I've heard the tial is very good. I have no personal experience but just heard.

now I got a turbo xs RFL. I know its not the best but works fine. just doesn't hold more than 25psi. and I like the sound it makes

So again user setup makes a big difference. You didnt hear the compressor surge when you were driving? I have never heard of any problems with the SSQ unless someone bought a knock off or didnt install it correctly.

no , I did not hear the compressor surge. and it was no Imitation. it was hks in the big black and purple box with the chinese instruccions. how could it be bad installed? its so simple. and I dont know why the backscrew was there. the new ssq doesn's have it.

It might be a good bov, though I like changing things from time to time.

If you couldnt hear the compressor surge then I highly doubt that is what killed your turbo after only 4 months.
