It's the same freaking thing. There's absolutely no proof of superiority of either engine.

The only advantage to the jdm motors is the slim possibility that you might get a 16g & some 510 injectors. The cyclone intake manifold it liked by some but I think the general consensus is that it's not really any better than the 1g intake mani. Also the JDM motors come with "approximately 30k miles" I don't know how true this is.. Most of the ones that I've seen.. were severly ragged out, abused, & neglected basic maintenance (IE oil changes).

Agreed. I have seen two in the last weak and both had blown turbos and one had a bad tranny. Niether one looked like they had under 30k miles on them. Waste of money if you ask me.

alright then so does anyone know whee i can find a GOOD used turbo engine and transmission. seeing as how everyone has just burst my JDM bubble so to speak. i wasn't really planning on keeping the cyclone intake on it any way or the turbo but if they are that ragged out ill just waste my disposable income elsewhere.

JDM engines are just a matter of pure luck - in my opinion. Most re-sellers actually run a leak-down test on them, which reveals the condition of the piston rings/valves/seats but not the condition of the main/rod/balance shaft bearings or the oil pump. I've seen JDM engines with oil pumps looking like brand new and - on the other hand - JDM engines with spun balance shaft bearings and oil pumps resembling 180K US oil pumps. The problem is that one doesn't know what he's getting - 'til he actually pays for it and takes it apart. You might end up with a true low-miles JDM engine in excellent shape - or a pile of worthless japanese junk - since even the re-sellers have no idea regarding the condition of the engines, how long they were sitting at the junkyards (we found some tags indicating some of the engines were junked in 1995), etc. If you like or are willing to take those risks, go ahead. If you like knowing what you're getting, apply the cost of the JDM engine toward a complete rebuild of your existing engine. In the long run, the cost is going to be approximately the same, but one may choose between JDM engine in unknown condition or fully rebuilt US engine with 0 miles... ;)
