The 4g63 has been tried and proven. Why the need to go for the stroker kits? Look at Magnus for example. They have their Talon equipped with the 4g63/64 hybrid that hits 9.6x but that is with a full fiberglass layout and slicks. Shepherd ran 9.66 with a full interior minus the back seats and with street tires.

It's like the thing to do now. 99% of us don't really need it either. I don't think it worth all the extra money when you can build the 4g63 to do just as good and maybe better.

What are your thoughts?
 
John has had years to get his car to the level it is at. Marco started running the 2.4l in Nick's car this last spring.

That 9.6 pass was made with the car cutting out severly in 4th, the mph was 6mph off what they normally run. They were running a stock head (had cams, maybe springs, no porting or valve job) out of a junkyard because they didn't have a ported head ready. In other words 9.6 is not all that car has in it.
 
I agree, Shep has had years to tune his car to it's current form. While it's a great car that's capable of quick times, you can't really compare Magnus to Shepard. If anything, Magnus gets the one up for running mid 9's in only a year's worth of racing. Shepard was running 10s for how long?

Anyways, this isn't a comparison between both racing teams...so I'll stick to the question. 2.4L means the powerband will come on sooner so there's no need to rev up to 9k like "some" people do, which means less drivetrain stress and such. *DSM trannys don't seem to like to shift @ 9k rpms* Also, 2.4L would spool up a turbo quicker than a regular 2.0, so you can run a larger turbo and still be "streetable".
 
Marco is also running a significantly smaller turbo than Shepherd. Give Marco another year or so and Im sure we will start to see some better times.

For an all out race motors many people would rather have the 2.0 because it is more proven and the piston speed and r/s ratio is better in the 2.0. Personally I don’t think you can beat a stroker motor in a street/strip car.
 
Thanks for clearing that up everyone. Makes better sense to me now. But with the added torque, our trannys can't stand up to it? Some people are saying... if you get the stroker your going to break trannies? And I still in a way believe that.

Do you think this is an engine for your weekend racer? It seems to me a little bit too much.

By the way, rdrkt, aren't you getting the Magnus Hybrid ready to be dropped in?
 
If you compare the cost of buying a Ross/Crower motor from a vendor the 4g64 is not that much more. I think the added torque MIGHT be a problem but that is only if you are really hard on the drivetrain during the launch. I use the slip method and that is much easier on parts. IMO having too much torque is like having too much money. Yes I have a 4g64 ready to get dropped in with my BR57. I just need a few more pieces and get a few more bills paid off before I can put everything together.
