I have a few 14B's layin around, and i'm thinkin about attempting to rebuild one w/ a 16G compressor side. The one 14b i have, the compressor fins are rubbing the housing...this happened after a hole developed in my oil cooler line, and i lost all my oil while driving...is it a warped shaft or what?
A few more ?'s...the 14B housing can be machined to fit a 16G wheel, correct? How much different are the 2 housings? Should i just get a 16G housing, or machine the 14B housing?
thanx

If you have a CNC lathe and a comparator to profile the wheel with then go ahead and machine it. You won't do it with a manual lathe. Otherwise just get the housing. You'll still have the 6cm^2 exh. housing though. You could better buy a real 16g if you want one IMHO or just rebuild the 14b as is.

the 14B w/ the fins rubbing the housing...is it salvagable? or should i just trash it?

could be rebuildable, but dont forget your going to want to have the turbo spin balanced after rebuilding...

You might get a way w/out balancing if you use all of the same parts but not if you switch shafts. There's a pretty good vfaq on a this out there but I can't seem to get to it right now to get you a link. Just check out www.vfaq.com. Basically is says if you scribe the comp. wheel, the nut and the shaft and get everything back to where it was you should be fine.

If your just looking for something to get you by for now then I would spend some time trying this. Even if you do a rebuild though you will still be spending money on the kit. It's all up to you.
