Hey guys i need some help. I keep getting beat by a WRX with the following mods and i keep being told i should be able to smoke him mod for mod.
He has;
3" down pipe and through exhaust.
U-tech ecu
565 injectors
fuel pump
and thats it.. running about 16-19 lbs of boost.

I in the other hand am running
stock injectors
stock sidemount
16-18PSI
B16G
act 2400
external Tial wastegate
full 3" exhaust
FPR
Palm-N-stein palm style engine Managment control
intake and all the regular things

We race and i have him through 1st and 2nd at about a half car then once we hit 3rd he goes by me. I am not getting any kind of heavy knocks or anything but at the time i had a small exhaust leak and maybe a tinny boost leak. so i was thinking people in here with more experiance could help me out. My boost stays constant throughout the pull but why and i getting smoked at top end.... im not to impressed and pretty pissed. Im about ready to sell this thing. please help me out.
while we were racing i was pushing 15lbs and he was spiking at 16 then settling down to 14 so he said ... so any help will be appreciated!
 
Get a front mount and injectors and something to control them with and you will pwn his a$$. :thumb:

O and tune it better. Cant stress it enough to fix all boost leaks, Might not sound like much but when you build a boost leak checker you will learn how much pressure 15 psi really is. A LOT of air comes out when you pressurise the system and there is a little bitty leak. When u have boost leaks it dosent let all the boost go into the cylinder and you run rich because of the mas seeing too much airflow thats not going into the engine.
Do all that and you will eat him like his a Krispy Kreme Donut. :thumb:

O the reason he is beating you is that he has more Horsepower :rolleyes:
 
Yeah I think with those mods you are not going to fair well... He has a standalone or a modded ECU (I don't know WRX ECU stuff) and the proper mods to put down 300-320 WHP...

YOu can also put down those numbers with the B16G but you need a better IC and injectors, Fuel pump and a AFC of some sort...
 
i have 550's but i sold them to get bigger ones. I baught 850's because DSMlink requiers go bigger because you can tune them down. I had an SAFC controler with the 550's and "eyebroski" and i spent about 2hrs tuning the car and i still had a little knock. Also i think my SAFC is junk. I would be cruising down the road at about 2500RPMs and my car will feel like its getting no fuel then boomb it will kick back in but my foot will not move off the accelerator. So i got curiouse one day and swapped out the injectors and put the stock ones back in zero'ed everything and it still happens. So then i said screw this thing and unhooked it and kept my stock injectors in there. Now i baught DSM link and im am woundering if this things really worth it because it seems like i cant get any more power out of the car. I have a spare motor(6bolt) building a 2.4stroker, and also have a 20G(fast spool up) and 272intake and 264 exhaust but things are just not going right with this stock 7bolt. i thought for sure i would be able to beat him. Now im running 20Lbs of boost im pretty sure ill beat him now:)... i baught the car and it was a 1.1Bar spring (tial wastegate spring)so i figure ill keep it the way i baught it. i am just really discusted with the car.. thought it had more then a basiclly stock WRX.. :barf:

550s, SAFC, Palm-n-stien, EGT, a/f, boost... thats about all .. i do have the supra intercooler but not installed... i think im selling it because i need something better for my 20G.
any help would be appreciated.

you have an act 2400? And an external gate on a tiny 16g? You are running 20 psi on a stock intercooler and on stock injectors? Jesus man, turn the boost down to 14 - 16 psi, let us know what clutch you really have, and put some aftermarket injectors in. 550s work fine for dsmlink...
 
ya my bad man i got the wrong clutch .. 2100<--- not 2400 dont know what i was thinking. I made the wastegate off the #1 runner with the stock cast manifold with nickle iron filler metal with stainless steel over coat filler metal, because if you read the above post i have a 20G ready to go on with the Stroker. Whenever its done...
i cant stand loosing either, and with these mods i would of thought i would be fine.. the car runs 19.5lbs fine, it heat soaks quick but for one 1/8mile sprint its ok. I have seen around these posts that quite a few tuners are running about 18-19 on the stock intercooler, im not saying ur wrong but others have diffrent opinions.
I am just waiting for the DSM link because im done with this SAFC junk and why go so small with injectors the 850s are fine for what i have planned.
i am just thinking im over looking something in the car, i was only running 15lbs when we raced. Like you said with the stock injectors in there i bet its starving for more fuel. i guess ill have to wait for the 850s and dsmlink to ever know.
Anyone ever heard of Utech for DSM's? if so what exactly does it do.

850's are extremely overkill for a big 16g, i wouldnt even go higher then 750 with a 20g.
 
well ill try out the 850's sence i just baught them and dont feel like selling them yet. if its to much then ill sell them and go lower. thanks for the help
 
I'm running 780s with an sc61 turbo and 25+ psi .... 660s are all you would ever need. My logger says 17 psi on a small 16 is the max you can safely go with a stock sidemount. ( I used to have a little 16g and stock intercooler ) Check for boost leaks and get some tuning done and you'll be amazed how much better your car runs.
 
boost leaks, 2g head and intake manifold, and stock injectors and interfooler are killing you.

i hate losing as much as the next person but you have to realize that you have some problems and your car wont be fast till you fix them. Fix your boost leaks and your exhaust leaks, tune your car for about 3 or 4 hours not on back to back runs because you have a stock ic. Heatsoak causes knock and will retard your timing. I have an afc on my 20g'ed galant and it runs great so i think its in the tuning and the supporting mods.
 
My reliable car is a wrx :p

With the mods listed he should be able to put down around 250whp with proper tune. He is still on the stock turbo. After 15 psi it is outside of it's efficiency and normally will not produce anymore power. It cannot even hold 15 psi to redline if you welded the wg closed.

I will be happy when my 1g is finally faster than my wrx :D
