ok heres my situation i just rebuilt my moter and my turbo was taking a shit so i bought a new one. my new turbo is oil cooled only. i wanna break it in on the old turbo but its gonna be a pain cause i have the coolent lines blocked already if i put my old turbo on is there any way i can block the water lines off and also will it hurt the old turbo any more cause i would need it to last for 1000 miles. and if any one has a digram of all the holes and a procedure of blocking off all the coolent lines and how they did it would would be much apperacated

You can use a water cooled turbo with out the line hooked up... You are probably going to destroy the turbo anyways with all the normal break-in bearing material... And even if it doesn't if you just let the turbo cool down after driving hard before you shut the car off it will be just fine... The water side is their for the general public so that those who don't know proper turbo care can have a car that doesn't cook turbo's... ie... Drive reall hard and then just shut the car off cooking the oil inside the turbo...

So for peep who drive hard and don't run a turbo timer,
it would be a good idea to run a water cooled turbo?
If youre breaking in an engine, it's a good idea to use an
old turbo?

Yes... Definitly use a old turbo you don't care about for engine break-in... As said the water lines are their so you don't cook the oil with a engine shut down and a hot turbo... You don't have to have a turbo timer just let it cool before you shut her down... Now if you have the water lines still open it doesn't hurt to run the water but since you are going full garrent w/o water and already sealed the water pipe it won't hurt ya to not run the water... Just let the turbo cool down is all... And on break in I'm sure your not even really going to be boosting all that much so it shouldn't be to much a problem anyways... It would be nice if someone made a turbo eliminator so you could just run N/A for engine break-in and not have to worry about destroying a good turbo...
