:dsm: :dsm: I have 91 talon non turbo and am considering an engine swap. i can get a JDM 2.0 with turbo and a Cyclone intake for $1600 and i was wondering if it would be cheaper to pull the engine and tranny out of a US car and transplant it. also would it be just as powerful. any other helpful hints you can think of to give me feel free cause i need alot of help before i go gutting my engine bay.:dsm: :dsm:

Polk did some research on the cyclone intakes... they aren't any better than a 1G, so don't do anything because you get a "cyclone intake". Some of the Jap specs have larger injectors... ie the yellow top motors, but those really aren't any reason to go and buy a Japanese spec engine over our US ones. Only real reason I could justify the japanese spec engines is their turbo's... I believe it is possible to get a 16G turbo with some of those, but its pretty rare. But they do generally have slightly larger turbos, but once again, its nothing that would justify the j-spec over US. If it were me in your shoes, try mitsubishigraveyard.com, or hit up dsmtrader. Do some searching and see if you can't find a US spec 4G63 6 bolt... make darn sure its a 6 bolt... for a much better price than $1,600. Try junkyards, etc. Just do a lot of research and keep looking, eventually you'll find what you're looking for. Just be patient. So, once again, in your shoes I wait it out until I find a US spec 6 bolt 4G63 engine for a good price. In my opinion, a good price for the entire engine would be about 800-1000, and then take what you've got left over ($600) and do some nice mods (ie 95 pistons... might as well if the engine is already out of the car... ).
Good luck.

well if you got a jdm evo1-3 motor it would be worth it, they came with different turbos, forged pistons, better rods, better injectors, stock set at higher boost, lotsa goodies, and it will bolt up to a stock us tranny or you could use the jdm 5spd and weld the vc, im not sure what im doin with my new tranny

i thought the cyclone take did have advantages. like creating more power in the low end. it has something to do w/ the different intake runners that open and close. I know someone mentioned this before, i just don't remember it all. someone give me a hand.

one of my friends uncle owns a japenesse motor company and i was talking to him about this very subject he said compared to the us and jap spec is20 hp and the jap spec he said had crank problems so for the money i dont think there worth it just get a bigger turbo.

i have a jdm enigine with the cyclone intake, needless to say the cyclone intake found the scrap pile fast, it makes less power up top, sorry i dont drive like grandma. the evo motors will not fit a 1g, they do not have provisions for engine mounts on the block. you can find the 16g equipped gvr4 motors with 450cc and 550 cc injectors, but would save money buying those two parts yourself instaed of being charged 2500 dollars for the rs motor. you will want to check the turbo to make sure you get atleast a 14b, not 13. also check the exhaust manifold, the old old ones had very narrow runners. some also had air oil coolers on them, not water. if you have a chance to take the valve cover off, check to see if both cams have an A stamped in them, they have more lift. i also got the gvr4 transmission in my deal, make sure to count the ratios. also the transfer case was all aluminum, not half steel, saved alot of weight. so by the time you bolt on your intake, all you really have is a stock usa 1g
