I am doing a rebuild on my gsx and removed the balance shafts. Instead of buying the kit i just took the old bearings and turned them 180 degrees of the oil holes. and on the oil pump shaft i just cut it down to 1/1/2 inches. here is my question the hole on the back of the stubby shaft does not need to be plugged or restricted does it? just making sure before i assemble the motor

Thanks.

Hey man, it's a good thing you mentioned that, because it does need to be plugged up.
That hole going thru the BS is what supplied the oil to the Rear Balance Shaft Bearing.
I'd say, get a tap and a set screw then red lok-tite that little biotch in there.
Just make sure you don't block the oiling hole for the front portion of the shaft.
I can't remember if that oiling hole is in the shaft or the oil pump housing.... you decide.....

Careful, you'll have low oil pressure if you don't do this right. Express a stubby. There used to be a description of the procedure to reuse the original shaft and plugging the shaft in some way was part of it. I don't remember exactly what that procedure was though, I'd recommend getting a replacement shaft. It comes from a mirage, and has an oil groove on it. http://www.vfaq.com/mods/balance-shafts.html
Tis link only shows the replacement shaft being done. It doesn't show the other way, so maybe you shouldn't do it as well.

Oh,
I remember what it was;
You have to thread that hole so you can put a longer screw for the pump gear. The longer screw will seal the hole. I think it is the basically the same screw, but the next standard length up. I am NOT exactly sur what lenght though, so youl have to do some fitting.
