Drove the car today for the first time since I started the new 6-bolt. I'll get a few pics when I find my camera. A couple comments/questions about the new set-up. This SBR FMIC is purely badass. I snapped numerous necks cruising down the road. However, I have my turbo set-up for an external dump, which I made while my car was down. It's on my 14b for now, I have an FP Green awaiting at the end of the year. The wastegate actuator was holding the flapper open at start-up, causing my car to be deafeningly loud. I backed the bolts out a turn or two, fired it up, and it was quiet. Is it safe to shim the bracket behind the bolts to hold it closed? And will this adversly effect full-boost at WOT?

Yes, that's fine. Just put a washer in there to fill the gap.

I have hit full boost, which was at 18psi, in first gear a couple of times. It opens and closes fine with the actuator shimmed between the bracket and the turbo. However, when I adjust the MBC to lower the boost to 6~8psi, I got on it in first and it doesn't open until 18psi. I backed the bolt nearly out of the MBC, left a thread or two, then tightened it down, and still, 18psi. I'm assuming the WG actuator is shot, correct? Either that, or it is shimmed so far to the point where it can only open at 18psi? I can't see this being the case, because it opened at 18psi, I twist it nearly a dozen times to lower it, and it still opens at 18psi.

If the wastegate has a spring "set" for 18psi....that is the lowest you can go. You can trick the wastegate into increasing boost with a MBC but not into decreasing boost.

That can't be the case, as I had the turbo set at 10psi before it walked. However, I'm guessing it laying around for 5 months caused it to no longer function.

The incresed WG psi is due to the shimming.

I just did this to my Talon yesturday and only used two normal sized washers, one for each bolt. Totally fixed my problem which was the wg clearly open even at idle. My WG now opens at 12psi than 10 before. No big deal.

How many washers you got on the damn thing?

I had to shim it with 4 washers to keep the damn thing quiet.

I'll go ahead and speak for him since we had pretty much the same conversation last night at our local DSM meet. The reason he's looking to run only 10PSI right now is that he's still breaking in the new engine. He is looking at getting another actuator arm already-- good call. IMO, once he gets everything installed and running like he wants, this setup will be quite impressive.
