hey few questions for you guys i got a 90 plymouth rs turbo its time for a rebuild but i wana do it right ive heard i can go with the 1g big rods and 2g pistons???? is this a good setup or should i just buy brand new rods and pistons??? my goal is to run around 18psi cause i got the big rods and i have a 2g engine that i can take the pistons well im not to sure just wanted to get some feedback before i send the block to the shop thx guys let me know what setup i should go with and its kinda gota be on a budget so nuttin to crazy

A daily driver can easily be done with the 1g rods and 95 pistsons. the 95 pistons are 8.5:1 while the stock 1g's compression is 7.9:1. the 2g pistons wil handle 18 psi easily with a good turbo. what i did was bore the block over 20 and used stock 2g pistons. it held up fine, pulled harder and made more low end torque than stock 1g pistons.

if you are looking for a good combination of aftermarket i would go with Ross and crower. a lot of people will vote for this combination as well. the ross crower combo will handle 500+ HP.

Eagle/Ross combo is a very good choice. You said you have a 2g engine that you can take the pistons out of, but I wouldn't get used pistons if I were you.

alright cool im gunna try that eagle is a lil bit cheaper that way i can spend a little bit more money on some head work

dont go cheap with your bottom end. its not worth it to build it and then regret it later on. make sure all main and rod bearings are changed, new front case, etc. make sure you also get a multi layer headgasket as well. my OEM headgasket blew out pretty easily once you look to run some good size boost

J&E custom pistons and rings (any CR you want)
Eagle rods
Clevite main & rod bearings
ARP main/rod/head bolts
Cometic head gasket

that´s a 400+ HP bulletproof setup

Are you going to run 18 PSI on a 14b or a FP3065?
What I’m trying to say is that you have to make sure you know what the end goal is with your engine and build the engine accordingly. If you build it now on a budget because you don’t foresee extremely high abuse in the near future but then, when the engine starts to give you the feeling that it can go faster and faster and you just don’t stop until you blow it up, you might regret that you didn’t use higher quality components.
Every engine has it’s limits and it is always best to build an engine that will “support” more than you will “throw at it”. That way you might get away with occasional bad tuning and the longevity of the engine will be “improved”.
Stock rods are good and using ARP bolts and aftermarket forged pistons give you a great combination, 2nd gen pistons being just a waste of time and money( especially when they are used too). If you think you will never look for very high HP numbers and the engine will be tuned carefully, this setup will be great.
Want a little more insurance for your high reving engine at a reasonable cost you can choose to go with a H-beam aftermarket rod like Scat.
Want the best you can get as far as rods, you go with a set of Billet rods like Oliver Racing rods.
It is all about how far do you want to go and how much money are you willing to spend. Sure the head work and the engine management will get you where you want but the shortblock will have “a say” how long will you stay there if it is even possible to get there.

wow thx guys for the info ya so far its looking good i only got like 2 grand to blow witch on dsm is nuttin, now i jsut gota deside what to put in the bottom end i like that J&E setup u metioned

Ross or wiescos are the best pistons you can buy for our motors. JEs have probems from the material they are made from

What exactly are wrong with the je pistons? Dont they have cleareance problems sometimes and cause lifter tick, i think i read that somewhere.
