I want to get an O2 dump for my car to try to eliminate some of my boost creep. I like how they sound, but I feel it would annoy me after sometime..... I was wondering if any of you DSMers have extended the piping towards to side of the bumper and then welded a crotch rocket muffler to the end. Allowing the tip of the muffler to stick out of a hole cut in the side of the bumper. It seems this would muffle the sound as much as possible w/o giving the WG path any backpressure. Please tell me of any experience about this... And show me pics if you guys have any...

Thanks -Paul-

i have seen it done on a turbo integra in a magazine and thought it was a good idea. i thought about doin it cus it would make it sound real nice.

I know iam an asshole, but you are the biggest ricer. :thumbdown

dude thats not cool! :thumbdown u can keep ur comments to ur self.

back to the question, arent crouch rocket mufflers pretty damn big, i dunno about 2g's but on 1g's there isnt much space to stick another muffler anywhere in the front

I believe magnaflow makes some pretty small 'bullet' mufflers you might search for. Another option would be a resonator. Less effective than a muffler, but smaller as well.

magnaflow makes some tiny mufflers, or try a cherry bomb, or small resonator. I think its a waste to do, but to each theyre own. It really isnt that loud, and only does it at WOT anyways.

I looked at the picture in the link and I don't quite get how it works.. I 'm interested in the idea as well.

I would think you could get a Muzzy slip-on muffler to work(for a sport bike). They weigh ~5lbs. New, they're pretty pricey. If you could find a used one on eBay, I think it would work really well.

don't you dare muffle that awsome sound! :p
when you hit full boost and the gate opens you'll thank me! :D

My buddy (fertez_turbo) has an O2 dump, and it's cool, but it's too loud. I had a loud exhaust on my previous car (Eclipse N/T), and I got a stack of exhaust tickets. I dont want to go through that again. Plus, I'm creeping, so it'll be open at half throttle. I like it, but it's a little too loud for my daily driver. Plus I like to experiment, so I think I'm going to pick up a small muffler off of eBay. I can get one for $20 shipped.....

If anyone has any pics of this setup, please post them. Thanks for the responses.

Or you could re-route the dump tube back into your downpipe. Do it right before the flex section and gains will be the same. If you have read turbocharging books, they recommend something like 15" from the turbine to bring the WG charge back into the exhuast if one doesn't wish to dump to atmosphere. Also noise is dictated [sp] by angle of pipe to ground, length, ID. I know mine changed sound when i cut the dump tube shorter. Can't remember how though since it was 1.5 years ago.

Like one other guy said, I would try to dump it back into your downpipe but further away from the wastegate. If you think you are creeping now because of too much backpressure in the recirculated dump, I would think dumping to the atmosphere with a muffler on the pipe would be just as restrictive and might not help your problem...

I have an external dump on my b16g as well and I would also like to quite it down a little or maybe even just change the tone. As you said you cut yours shorter, could you make it longer and maybe follow the exhaust down a little so the dump points towards the rear of the car.

Then possibly the exhaust gas would not be smacking into the ground creating that sort of echoing sound that I get a WOT??

Ya that would also quiet it down since the noise is not bouncing off the road and back into the car.

Its a disc-only muffler like on a bike. Small but quite effective! A few people are using them with much success.

It would be great to hear some audio clips of before and after to compare. I would do it but I have no idea on where to even start on uploading video and audio files onto the computer.

Yeah an audio clip would be nice. My dump runs back a few feet under the car with an angled cut like Stoner suggested and it sounds like poo. It's not so much the sound level but the high tone.

I found some clips in the hangout forum, under dsm video links. I am trying to download them here at work but our dsl connection sux. I am going to download them when I get home on my cable connection its much faster.

Check em out.

Well guys, I've decided to go all out and get a Tial 38mm Wastegate. I'm having Slowboy port my manifold and they are going to mount the WG. It's the easiest solution to the creeping problem and it's reasonably priced at $210..... I am also high bidder on a small muffler on eBay for only $1 and $5 for shipping. I will buy that and have it laying around, just in case the Tial is excessevily loud.....
