Channelview,
How realistic and efficient would it be to run something in the area of an FP Green turbo on a FWD DSM?......wouldnt the traction problems make it not worthwile?.........please vent on this one because i would prefer to have FWD over AWD ......but i would also like the car to be a good street car.......thanks.....Eric

Well, if you promise to keep boost levels down, then it'll be okay. :p

Or you can try an EBC that limits boost on each gear, so for example 1st you can set @ 10psi, 2nd @ 15, 3rd @ 20+, etc etc.

You might want to invest in some stickier tires as well. ;)

or i could just commit myself to only running highway races and not being coaxed to run an LS1 boy from a dead stop....

The EBC with selectable gear boost is a good idea, a friend of mine runs the AVC-r on his GST with around 400hp and it helps alot considering if he runs full boost he just spins first,second,third..but with the AVC-r it prevents this somewhat. I usually just take of normal when there is someone light to light with me and then take off at higher speeds, they will still race. I just prefer not to launch because of wheel hop and spinning, plus punching it in 2nd at 40 mph hits full boost instantly and pulls really good... Later Corey

Then what about a Red of a FWD, a friend of a friend has that setup, I have yet to ride in it :( ...but from what my friend tells me at 25+ psi his car is just silly fast..as for dyno queen and torque steer, true in some ways but at 60 plus mph I am sure that isnt a concern when you are walking on a Zo6 or Supra or somthing .. Later Corey

i dunno i think it would still spin at 60 mph but yeah it would pull like a mofo on the highway if it was tuned properly

Well I am sure he is capable of spinning at 60mph but his car also has a quaife (sp?) so I am sure it helps. Like I said I have never ridden in it so I dunno really, I have just watched it drive (fly) away... Later Corey

I've always thought it would be cool to have a butt stompin' fast FWD.
Something with a big laggy turbo that would be the king of the highway.
I'd say go for it, nothing like throwing tire chunks all over a vette at 60mph while your pulling away:)

I think you need to just hang up your dreams of being fast ....Because the only sure thing your doing is going no where fast chief !.... Plus , word on the street is your get your b***s handed to you on a daily bases by a Blue Laser running on 3 cly. and 2.5 pounds of boost....Maybe you should stick to your "TERD" cell and do the go-kart engine swap you've been talking about pott-na!

Flame of the Century!!!!!!!

from your freind over there on that SAUF SIDE.

It's not that bad.. you just have to learn how to drive it. Also really sticky tires help alot.. but you'll be replacing them quite often. Our shop has a 528hp 93 honda hatch that runs 11.89 @ 126 on BFG drag radials & pump gas. It is his daily driven street car (put 5000+ miles on it this summer). Keep in mind that he has to replace the drag radials every couple of months.

It's possible, but it's going to be alot harder to achieve the same times as the AWD. Hahn's car hit 11s but those were on slicks. Your going to want some really sticky tires, and a boost controller like an AVC-R. So you can change the boost levels at each gear. And you may also want to invest in LSD. It is also alot harder to launch a FWD. It very difficult to hook up a FWD, but it is possible.

FWD are really good on the highway.
From light to light is where the AWD shines.

I sold my GS-T in favor of AWD because I couldn't stand the wheelspin and wheelhop. Plus I feel safer in an AWD car :p

Hopefully your the highway kind of person :)

Just go big. - I want to upgrade to a 60 trim on my FWD.

The S20G just isn't big enough for me anymore.

I love top end runs... and have noticed most of what I do when I head to the strip is run from a roll anyways so Wheel spin isn't that much of a problem at 60mph (YET)

Ken that car is insane I heard about it over on the Supra forums. As much as I hate to admit it when an intelligent tuner gets a hold of a Honda they are capable of making some stupid power.

Personally I would never build up a fwd DSM. If I wanted a crazy highway car or a from a roll racer I would buy the first Colt shell that I could get my hands on because at least they are 400-500lbs lighter. My favorite example is a guy that built an old Mirage and ran a 13.3@115 while “only” making 270hp with a small 16g on pump gas all because the car only weighs 2400lbs. Apparently there is such a thing as power to weight ratio. Who knew

I got a ride in LarryD’s car while it was being tuned and even though it was only making modest power its still spun all of first, second and got a little flighty in third OMG I can only imagine what it would be like to have another 100-150hp. Personally I would rather be making forward progress instead of having to modulate the gas and torque steer and spin all over the road but that’s just me.

Dude, front-wheel-drive is wrong-wheel-drive. It suck so bad that I sold my GS-T because it was so frustrating. Now I just drive a beater but eventually I'll be looking for a 95-99 AWD DSM

It's a much better feeling to run down and speed by your opponent at the track then it is to get a great launch and try to get to the end before the guy beside you catches up.

Then there's the highway too

That's what the 2nd stage of nitrous is for. ;)

Even the stock DSM's break loose in 1st and 2nd. I can only imagine what its like to have 300 plus power at the wheels, you tires would be screwed in a FWD. But yet, i would still rather have a FWD then AWD, i don't know why, but i just rather would.
