crank machining costs

how much are you guys spending to have your cranks machined? 2 of my journals have slight scoring in them so I might as well take care of it while it's apart. Do you usually just machine what needs to be done or do you take the journal that needs the most material taken off and grind them all down that much? I'd rather have them all even just for the simplicity of buying oversized bearings all in 1 pack then but I'm wondering the price difference and what most people do first? How much do people usually spend on balancing the crank?

...if polishing wont get those 2 journals looking good, then I'd get another crank.

Nitriding from factory is rather uneven and cutting down the crank *might* get you into un-hardened parts of the crank.

A good used crank from Mitsubishi Graveyard is somewhere's around $150 as I recall.

Polishing at machine shop is ~ $20

Balancing at machine shop is ~ $80

Nitriding runs ~$300.

Cryogenic hardening (not quite the resulting hardness as nitriding) runs ~$100.

Hope this gives you some data points.

alright thanks for the info ... good news ... I took it to my machinist today and he said a light polish will take care of it. I guess I'm just overly paranoid or something.
