Hi,

I am sticking 264 in and 272 ex cams into my 2G stock head for the last track event of the year. I just want to run it 1 more time before the winter transformation to the rebuild 1G head. Just to make sure, can I ran the car with stock head internals and without adjustable camgears with these cams?
Thanks,

Sven

you shouldn't have any problems, i have them in my stock 2g head. if you have a 97-99 make sure you tap the intake cam, i made that mistake

You can run them without cam gears, but I wouldn't recommend it. Both my HKS 272's were off by 6* cam speed.

It seems the majority of people dont use adjustable cam gears, never heard that it was much of a problem. Anyone else have probs.

Same. I run 272's, but they could be off. However, the car runs well and pulls like a mofo to 8k (rev limiter of stock ecu...7800 to be exact I think).

It is definitely a good idea to do the adjustable cam gears. I did stock gears before I was aware that they could be off from the factory so don't listen to me :thumb:

do you have any other stuff done to your head ie: springs/retainers/keepers was thinking of doing some cams and wondered if it would be a good idea to best utilize power of my turbo. scm50

Yes, its a BJ's Cylinder Head Stage III head with Crower springs, Groden ti retainers, Ferrea 1mm oversized valves, and ported to flow 25% more than a stock 4g63 head.

IMO if you'll have the whole thing apart, the springs/retainers are a good idea to upgrade.

That's odd. I've never neard of anyone getting funky HKS Cams before.

I'm using the stock gears on mine, they were good out of the box.

Read any of the "How do I degree my cams" threads and a lot of people have that problem. It's not extreme. Like many have said, no bad side effects from running the stocker gears. For shits and giggles you should see how far they're off.

What needs to be "tapped" can you explain?
