I was wondering if i install a maft and the gm mafs if it will get rid of fuel cut or will i still need a fuel cut defenser and if any body has dynoed there car before and after they installed one or what kind of hp gains the maft adds let me know please :dsm:

From what I have read, it depends on your settings for the MAF-T. From my experience, if you lean the signal out, then you should get rid of the fuel cut. Just make sure you have big enough injectors.

Using any sort of FCD is a bad idea. You are fuel cutting because you are flowing more air than you can provide fuel. Get more fuel and lean the signal out and you are set.

You should check to see if you have a EPROM ECU. A lot of 90's did. IF you do then just socket it and get a chip burned with better fuel maps and better timing maps. You can get rid of fuel cut, add a studder box, and even take care of phantom knock. Just a thought if you are hitting fuel cut.

You sure you understand what fuel cut is? You know it has nothing to do with fuel amounts or rates or delivery right? Your on the right track when you talk about air flow.

Nope, the name is accurate. The ECU cuts fuel (and spark) when the measured airflow exceeds a preset value the factory decided was a safe limit in case the wastegate hose fell off. All the methods of getting around fuel cut other than ECU code changes lie to the ECU about the actual air flow (by reducing it) in an attempt to not exceed the programed value.

Using a MAFT or SAFC with bigger injectors has the potential to delay hitting fuel cut by the reduction in the airflow signal but that causes other problems because the ECU also uses airflow to decide what timing maps to use.

fuel cut is there for a reason....leave it there to do its job..if you have to ask a question like this, chances are you will melt your pistons within a week

so if im hitting fuel cut what can i do to fix the problem I thought that if i did the maft and gm maf and bigger injectors that would fix the problem? need more help

The GM MAF by itself will probably raise the cut level. like the man said get biger injectors ad a way to log. I also got the "Scanmaster" and I love it! I can easily watch my knock count and change to timing and see if it's being pulled. I still have some trouble understanding how running a richer mixture can cause cut but what the ECU reads is air. The translator does trick the ECU as to the amount of air flowing into the motor.
I was getting some knock at WOT so I richened the mix and got more knock! Reduced the amount to a leaner mix and no more knock! Mark
