A friend of mine suggested i get a N/T engine from japan 6-bolt
Engine

And use that block and head and put in my 2g pistons and it would be as good as a regular turbo DSM, is it true?

I was told this is not much of an issue, in other words if the turbo engine lasts let's say 80,000 miles, then the NA would last 60,000

Is it true?

Are the rods on these the big ones?

yes it will work. i'm pretty sure any 90-91 6 bolt has big rods. it's just the pistons and a cam that are different. it won't have oil squirters but it's not a big deal. also the knock sensor will fit fine in case anybody says otherwise.

So put in my cams, pistons, inyectors/fuel rail, exhaust manifold with turbo and set to go?

Has anyone done this before?

Thanks in advance

i would assume it would be just like any 6-bolt swap, i think you would have to swap your intake manifold or at least the throttle body...should work though, and if you really want oil squirters you can get them machined in, but they are'nt completely neccesary they just help.....

Yeah i have my complete 7-bolt in my GST so i have all i need to make it turbo.

But will i be able to run it just like a regular turbo?? 18psi+??

i just bought a n/t 6 bolt block too.

but where should i put the knock sensor just one of the empty threaded holes on the back of the block. did the non turbo have knock sensors or what???

there are 2 holes to choose from. One is right next to the brass freeze plug between clyinders 2-3. i hope its the same thread pattern.

when my cousin bought his first tsi it was a 90. he got it from a small hole in the wall dealer. well he ran it for about a year and a half before he blew it up. he blew it up from running too much boost on a small 16g and everything else was stock(free mods+k&n). Well to our suprise, when we pulled the motor to replace it, it looked slightly diffrent and the pistons were definitly diffrent then the newer oem ones he got. well its because it was a jdm non turbo motor. so yes you can run a non-turbo bottom end in a turbo car, oil squirters or not. it doesn't matter. honestly he beat the crap out of it and ran about 16-17psi all day long. and they have 9.0:1 compression.
