If you have a 2g mas on your 1g could you post a pic of your setup? The previous owner of the car put one on and the filter is slapped up aginst the fender, and the upper intercooler pipe is all custom/hacked up. Just trying to get an idea of what everyone else has done, and if you used a smaller pipe or what. Its a Dejon tools 2g to 1g pipe, and I'm not sure if they make a shorter one and he just opted to get a longer version. Thanks guys.

Josh

My 2g mas pushes the filter up against the inner fender. I have a fmic so piping is no problem for me. Here is a pic of my engine bay. Kinda dark and crappy but you get the idea of where my filter sits.

yeah thats how mine sits as well, you got the advantage of the FMIC and custom piping, but as you know its pretty difficult to get the stock or aftermarket upic pipe in that area, only thing I can think of is get the 2g mas filter adapters to where you can use a smaller air filter becuase the 2g k&N is so wide and flat. Thanks for the post, this board is awesome for help because of people like you.

Heres mine. FMIC as well but my piping goes threw the fender like how it was stock. Really wasnt all the tight of a fit for me. The tricky part is getting the pipe past the actuator on the turbo. That might be your problem. Theres also a "mount" on the fender for the stock air can to bolt too from the factory which i removed for more room :talon:

Spoolin I see one major difference and thats your 1 g filter, I have the 2g flat oval looking one, I'm thinking about getting one of those cheap ebay adapters and finding a filter that fits better and I will be in business. Thanks Josh

Also what did you guys do with the two lines, one was charcoal canister I believe, and I'm pretty sure there were two but I may be wrong, I hate not having saw it stock for a reference point but I can see the one line from charcoal filter is plugged off with a screw in my ride.

Yea you cant use the 2g filter on a 1g, its way too big. Get the filter adapter for it here, and get the 1g filter also and you will be set. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the link.

You can just eliminate them, their not necessary to have. One is for the charcoal canister and the other is the vent for the valve cover :talon:

the maft requires some tuning and an AFC right? the 2g mas got my a/f ratios pretty dead on with stock boost and a few other mods, not to lean at all, once I can figure out how to get mmcd data onto my home computer I will post some shots of it. I want to get the car restored back to a good starting point, plugs, wires, filters, fuel pump etc before I spend money on maft, afc, and mbc along with a dyno session, I just don't know what the previous owner did maintance wise besides your normal stuff, so when I buy a car I try to make sure stock it runs right :) Thanks for the help guys.

The MAFT does not require you to have an AFC or require you to tune...it just gives you the option to tune. I would go with the MAFT over a 2G MAS if I was you...

First, he would want to replace his stock uicp with an aftermarket part that can accomodate the gm maf. Even then, the maft would be overkill for his current setup. There would also be a substantial price difference between the 2g mas and maft.

On the other hand, you need an afc or other means of fuel control to make the 2gmas work properly on a 1g. This can also be an expensive route to take.

In your stock form, I would just remove the lower hc from the stock mas and use that. This will free up that extra $ to put towards something you need more at this point. If your car is still stock, you have a long way to go before you have to worry about mas overrun.

Funny how this has NOTHING to do with the question asked.

a gm maf would be better for long term if he planns on completing stage one mods. the tuning capability is a bonus.

on a modded car a gm maft will have asmuch as a 20+ hp gain with the combo of a upper ic pipe.

Read the FIRST line of the FIRST post.

If you mean the 2g FIPK, I disagree. I'm using it right now with the stock upper pipe on a 1g. It's a VERY tight fit, and a hard upper pipe might give you trouble, but it definitely fits with some "coaxing". This is using Dejon Tool's 2g-mas-in-a-1g pipe. As far as the charcoal canister, I have it purging directly down at the road. The valve cover line is going to a catch can, then venting to the engine bay right now.

#### who cares what the first line says, Im simply saying that a gm maft is better and worth paying the extra money for

Maybe he cant afford it or doesnt feel like spending that kinda money. Maybe he doesnt even have any plans for the car. Just drop it man, let it go :talon:
