if you were building a highflowing, strong, quiet head what parts would you choose?

call bj, at bycylinderhead.com or robert at forced performance

let them do it, theres alot more to it than people think, you dont just port and polish and throw in big valves, i bought a stage 5 bj head and its the most awesome looking unit ive seen

but good luck with it

well i would buy the parts and have a machine shop do the rest :)

that's what I'm doing .. you can get all the parts from slowboy racing. Get the stainless valves ( possibly oversized ), the bronze valve guides, I got crower springs and retainers, hks 272 cams, revised lifters, new valve seals, and go to the dealership and get new oem rocker arms or if you really want to then reuse yours. Thats about it. Have a reputable machine shop do the work.

Maybe it's because I live in Ohio, but there are certain things I would not let my V8 based machine shop do and grinding away at my ports with a die grinder is one one of them. Cylinder head "porting" is more than that. I highly recommend letting someone with DSM experience like FP or BJ's do the work.

exactly, theres very few machine shops that can work on imports, they think they can, but like you said just because yhey can build a ford 302 or chevy 350-454 doesnt mean they can do a 4g63, it may work, but i'm sure he doesnt no the correct porting process like angles and size.

add up whats this machine work will cost with labor and porting, then add all of your parts(springs, lifters, retainers, valve guides, over-size valves) and ill beat you could order a stage2 or 3 from BJ

call him up, he's a cool guy

If i were you guys, I would watch what I say. I have a cylinder head built for my 95 tsi awd by the same guy that did my machine work on my chevy SB 307 for my 71 nova, and I would put it up against a fp stage 5 head, or anyone elses for that matter. I also happen to live in ohio. Now i did work with the guy and have known him for a good while, but thats besides the point. My head has been checked and matched with a dynoflo for velocitys and flow ratings, and i must say that ordering a head from fp or sb would not necessarly be the best option even thought i know their heads are amazing, But like i said, mine was matched for my sheet metal manny etc. Just my 2 cents on V8 machine shops.

ive never seen port work that could match my stage 5 head from bj...period.....you cant port like him unless you have a cnc machine, i'm just giving him some tips because i hade a head built locally and it smoked the whole time it was on the car and there was no power gain from what i could tell driving the car, maybe since you no this guy he spent some extra time and effort on yours but if just anyone walked in would they get the same work and time??? most of the time answer would be no

but to each, and their own....peace
