Shield On Main Brg Cap??????

This Shield Looks Like It Does Nothing, Can I Leave It Off Or Does It Have To Go Back On

Its The Shield That Has 4 Bolts, That Bolts To The Main Cap Assembly

My Old Setup Blew Up And Took Out This Shield And I Would Rather Not Buy A New One If I Don't Need It
