Spearco Intercoolers?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

if you want a spearco intercooler go to www.indyracecores.com they'll sell you the kit for your car A LOT cheaper than spearco will. Believe me, i faxed them for a price on the same race and street core that indyracecore sells (i thought i might be able to get it cheaper from spearco) and the prices were $700 for the street core and $790 for the Race core without the piping and indyracecores sells it for $900 for the street core and $1500 for the race core WITH piping and clamps. this was for the 1g by the way. hope this helps

Thanks for the info. I've got one of those awesome cause it's from Japan Greddy's and i just didn't look into it enough when i bought it. Weirdest thing, i typed spearco intercoolers into multiple search engines and never found their homesite.
thanks again

It seems that almost everyone here runs the 2-216, is that a pretty standard size or are there other options i should think of? One last quesiton, i've been looking at dsmperformance's fmic. They say it flows 1280cfm at 1.5psi pressure drop and it's only $700 witout piping. Any opinions on that one?

check out www.hardracing.com, they have great prices on spearco intercoolers.
get a 2-216 core, find someone to weld some endtanks on and you're set. the i/c tubing is really easy, just buy some 90's from RRE or wherever. don't spend 1000+ bucks on the kit. get your hands dirty and save hundreds...

do you really think, that is a better idea than just buying a complete core from ken. with pipes and killer end tanks. don't forget ken's intercoolers come with a 2.50" throttle body elbow, over flow bottle and a 1 spal fan, for that 1000 bucks. everyone is not interested, in back yard mechanics. putting together random parts, and you are saving a few hundred. buschur and *mach take you're money 5* sell the exact same cores for 1300 and 1600. ill stick with ken:thumb:

I tried ordering that intercooler from dsm-performance.
Well lets just say after almost 3 months things didnt work out that kept giving me the run around. SO i dont suggest going to them either.
I believe getting an intercooler has been the tuffest thing to get for my car.

yeah i do think it's a better idea, if i didn't i wouldn't have said it...i have less than 400 dollars in my 2-216 setup. it's not worth 600 dollars to me to make buddies with a vendor...

cool lets see it.

its not a point of making friends with a vender, its called a good deal from a good guy. btw i need a set of tires, go spin me some rubber and make a set. since im sure its cheaper then buying some

but please i must see this under 400 fmic you have with pipes and end tanks. if you could itemize the cost for each part, and where you got each piece from it would be helpful also

Does spearco sell endtanks as well or do those come from a seperate vendor? Also, has anyone thought about making a "how to decide which FMIC" a sticky??
thanks,

haha, ok.
itemized list: (sorry for taking up space for the people who don't care)

2-216 core: $378 (old jobber price)
endtanks: free - used aluminum sheet from around the shop
bends: free - used various mandrel bends from around the shop
BOV flange: free - reused stock one
couplers/hose clamps: ~$15 - 2' of 2.5" radiator hose & various clamps
welding: free - did it myself

i didn't powdercoat or polish any of my bends though, so i'm probably loosing 20-30 hp there...

i'm sure that was helpful to no one, i apologize again for wasting space...

So basically if you don't work in some type of performance shop what you paid is bogus for 99% of the buying public....would that be a fair assessment?

no i dont think you will loose 20-30 hp. some actually take pride in the way their car looks. parts off the floor, are not what everyone is looking for when buying or building a intercooler. i apologize for wasting space for those who dont care:rolleyes: still waiting for a pic

I would also like to see a picture of this $400 intercooler!

Also since you build them yourself can I or anyone else buy one
from you (complete & assembled), and have it shipped to our homes for $400?

 i dont think so the raw core is $560 no end tanks, no pipes NADA

yea lets see, you work in a shop, and know how to weld. but what about the rest of us who dont have the skills to weld, or access to mandrel bends and scraps of aluminum. Just buy the damn kit and don't make the piping yourself. You shouldnt be giving out information if you have more skills (IE: WELDING) and access to parts (IE: A SHOP) then the average joe.

not sure why you guys are mad at me for getting a good deal and doing work myself...i never said other people can get their IC's for what i paid. i said others could save money by doing some work themselves.

pictures are at www.streetdynamics.com, i really hope this is the end of this crap....

you tell everyone how cheap it is to do, you then tell the room what you paid. i ask you to explain how it cost you only $400 total. when the core is $560 alone. you accuse me of making friends with a vender. because they have great prices. then you contridict yourself when you cant prove that its cheaper to buld a core then to buy a complete kit from ken, and you wonder why we are ripping on you? still waiting for a pic of this $400 complete 2-216

oh and that bootleg link does not work. i did not ask for a link that does not work, i asked you to post a pic of you're intercooler

yeah i saw that, and there is no intercooler pics on that site. just some ricers doing spinout's in the snow, and some other BS.
