This dude in my area has a 1990 Eagle Talon TSI AWD, black/gray 2 tone paint, 5-speed. His mods are Big 16g turbo ported/clipped, evo III manifold, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, boost controller, 5" tach, short shift kit, KYB drag launch suspension, dropped 2", ported/polished head, etc. The bad thing is that it doesn't run, it can but he preferes not to due to a "damaged head gasket." He said all it needs is a new head gasket along with some arp studs (recommended) and it will run just fine, but it's hard to believe. I want to trust him, and I would buy the car, but skepticism keeps me from doing so. He wants $2,400 for the car, included in that deal is the stock 14b turbo and new bushings. He's moving in a few days and in a hurry to sell the car, that could possibly explain the low price if he's being honest. What should I do????? I apologize for not posting in the newbie forum, but it seems like you guys would be able to help me out a little more. I want to find out how to check and see if all that's needed is a head gasket but we can't figure out how to do that (he lives 120mi. away). Please help, any help is greatly appreciated~Brandon.

Write up some sort of contract in the bill of sale stating if that it is not the head gasket that is the prolem then you can be fully refunded. Or something allong those lines.

$2400 for a car that you cant hear run? Even if the head gasket was blown, it wouldnt hurt the car anymore than it is to start it up for a second. Sounds like he's feeding you a line of bs. :thumbdown

Man that's a tough decision....
This is what I'd do.
If you're that interested in it, then ask him if you can get a mechanic out to where the car is to have a pro go thru it.
Check the coolant, check the oil, in fact dump the oil.
Do a compression check, bring a battery....
Have a mobile mechanic do a leak down test on it....

Just a thought, I know how hard it is to pass up a decent deal.

I wouldn't buy it ... it's easy to work on these cars and fix them ( practice makes perfect ) ... but you can find a stock one for $1500 and put those mods on for another $1000.

i would buy it for $500 but thats it. if the body is good decent paint.

for the fact that you can recoop your loss if its not just the HG by sellin the parts "if those mods are even on the car".

make sure they are if you buy it.

thats all i would pay for "that" car thats not running. you never know wtf is wrong.
