Edmonton,
I have a bit of a dilemma on my hands. Right now my car has the stock motor, stock turbo, a big PTE intercooler, some cheapo charge pipes I made, 3" exhaust, boost controller, just your typical bolt ons. I've been scraping and saving, and I almost have my 2.3L motor built in my garage. It has a brand new 4G64 crank, Eagle connecting rods, JE pistons that were Swain coated, a Buschur stage3 head, HKS 272/272 cams, extreme motorsports springs/retainers, and a venom intake manifold. Now comes decision time, what turbo exhaust housing should I use? I would like to build a car that will run a 120 MPH trap on 94 octane pump gas, and then at the strip my goal is 135 MPH. What turbo do you think I should run? Fp3065? T3/62-1? My dad has a ball bearing T70 P-trim with very low miles that he would give to me for basically nothing, but I think that is overkill and would spool too slow for my car. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.

Thought I should add I'm also looking into a GT35R for a T3/T4 turbo, and with any turbo I get I'm going to be using a TiAL 44MM external gate :thumb:

120 on pump and 135 on race gas will require over 400 whp on pump, and over 500 whp on race gas. You'll want a turbo capable of flowing over 60 lb/min, and with good exhaust flow. I think a GT35R is a good choice.

You still need a fuel pump,Injectors, something to compensate for them..tuning stuff..So many other things you need. But for turbo yeah t72 would do it or that ball bearing one. Not to mention with all that stuff what about ur tranny..You sound like ur buiding a race car I hope you are ready for things to start breaking especially the tranny if its stock.

Shep is gonna get a call for the tranny when I'm ready for it, probably not till in the spring time. I have 1000CC PTE injectors, and for fuel I have the stock tank sumped running dual 255 LPH walbros, it's quiet as hell but it flows an assload of fuel. I want to get the motor finished with the turbo, manifold, and downpipe in my garage, there is no point getting it in while I am still daily driving the car. I don't plan on turning it into a straight race car (that's why I still want to run it on pump gas) but it is going to be more of a weekend driver, maybe once a week to work on fridays type car.

A GT35R is a really good turbo. This will be a turbo that will make your goals attainable but at the limits of the turbo. Spools as good as you can hope for, for the potential power.

You could do it with a 61mm turbo but you might want to look into the 63 and 67mm turbos also. If you do go with a P trim exhaust wheel, go with a T4 exhaust housing, and don't make the mistake I did with a .82 a/r T3 side. I'd suggest a P trim .68 a/r, nothing bigger, nothing smaller unless nitrous is in play as spoolup is nice and you will have a really usuable powerband with a 2.3/2.4 and that exhuast side with either one of those compressor wheels.

Well, I've thought about a Master Power T70. They supposedly have very light wheels and a light shaft so they spool up quicker than say a turbonetics T70, and for about 500 dollars if I don't like it it isn't as huge of a loss as dumping twice as put for a PT67, so I think i'm going to try that. I just picked up an SFP T4 manifold today for very cheap, so I've pretty much made up my mind that it is going to be a T4 frame turbo.

Hey let me know how that is workin out with that turbo and all. I am doing the exact same thing with my motor. What cams did you decide on? You can pm me if you want. Thanks ROFL

Im speaking from what Ive seen on the 2.3/2.4 gt35r evo cars. I know quite a few of these guys and seen what their setup can do. Most are pushing 600- 650 whp(100 octane/c16) on gt35r with .82 housing. Full spool is in the 3600 rpm range so its a beast on the road.
