Best Spark Plugs For Turbo Engine?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Those of us running larger turbos and lots of boost (25psi-ish) may want to try the BR7ES. "P" = "projected tip". The BR7ES is non projected and will help to combat spark blow outs.

Also people using nitrous, you should probably be running BR7ES or even BR8ES.

This is not for everyone. If you are not running low 11s, planning on running low 11s, or using nitrous then don't bother with the non projected tip. You will be 1) wasting your time and 2) probably fouling them out really often.

Also, don't fall victim to the "more gap is better". A small spark is better than no spark because it blew out. I see idiots with Hondas running a 3/16ths inch gap and wondering why their cars run like #@%#@%#@%#@% and they have to replace their plugs every other day.

I gapped mine at .028. I think the book calls for .028 -.032? I havn't tried the BR7ES yet. I wonder if I should. I'm running a Green and will be running around 23lbs on race gas at the track when I go next time.

if you are going stock with it go with the ngks...however if you really want ones that will last a long time for racing and daily driving also...look into iridium spark plugs...granted they were dyno tested at a whole 8 hp gain at the wheels...they will last about twice as long as most other spark plugs...and thats why you pay a hell of a lot more for them too...

I would stick with the projected tip until you have a problem. I should have added that to my statement. If you have an upper RPM miss that is totally unexplainable and you end up dropping cylinders, it's probably the spark being blown out. In which case you can decrease gap to .025-.023 and see if that works but you may want to try to intensify the spark with an aftermarket ignition or try to run a non projected tip. If you decrease the gap a lot or run a non projected tip and are still having a problem, then it's probably time for the ignition upgrade. I don't really know what that point is though. I'd assume it would be right around the 125+ mph mark that you probably need to just do the ignition upgrade thing.

If you have a bad miss then you really have to start with new plugs and wires and then experiment from there. It may turn out that you have a bad coil, best solution there is to barrow one from a friend with new wires and new plugs to see if that eliminates the problem.
