Hey guys I have been playing with my car most of the summer trying to cool her off. I never had a problem with any overheat until the font mount went on my car. Not that its ever coming off way to much fun with it.

I can't get it to stop heating way up amost to redline on a really long WOT run or sometimes by the time I hit the top of second its already starting.

I have 2 slimline fans on the car one runs all the time never shuts off and the other when it calls for it. I also have redline waterwetter in my system. I am wondering what else to look at for the possible problem? Its not that hot out 80*-90* tops 90* like 1 time this summer. Anyone with suggestions? T-Stat maybe? It comes up to temp pretty quick but cruising its fine never gets warm only when your running it hard.

Same thing happened when I put on my ADFX fmic on a 97 GSX. Solved it with a few tricks.

First was to use a SPAL 12" or 13" fan, mounted 1/2" off the radiator on the drivers side. I then jumped the rely to run it all the time when the ignition is on. Second, because I have a 97 I also have the bumper with the black cutouts right above the radiator opening. What I did was cut 2 oblong holes into the bumper cover about 2.5"x9" wide with corresponding holes into the bumper itself. My intercooler is 9" tall and I mounted it another 1" lower by bending the bottom mounting tab to get more clearance. This pushed the intercooler just low enough that air can blow thru the bumper cutouts, then up and over the intercooler and then into and thru the a/c core & radiator. I also reused the radiator ram duct and with some trimming, riveted aluminum sheet metal and duct tape tried to get a perfect air tight seal. Next I got some foam garage door weather stripping and glued strips to seal the entire perimeter around the face of the a/c condensor. I then installed the intercooler and this formed an air tight sandwich. Next I got some regular foam weather stripping and completely sealed the perimeter between the radiator and the a/c condensor. Next step was to pull the rubber insulation stripping at the back of the hood near of the base of the windshield. Finally switched from 50/50 coolant mix to 70/30 coolant mix.

Results are on a 70 degree day my cruise water temps are 196 degrees and 3rd gear WOT temps are 200 degrees. It takes about 15 seconds after the temps shoot up to 200 degrees to drop back down to 196, which isn't too bad. Even with all these tricks the car still takes a while to dump the heat load even if the coolant temps are normal. There just isn't enough cross sectional area directly exposed to ambient air.

I'm also running the stock 180*F thermo on a stock radiator with 100,000 miles. When I installed my spal 13" curved fan I thought it wouldn't flow as much as the stock main fan. But when they both kicked on together I was shocked at how much air the spal fan moved, equal to the stock main fan with the shroud. Hope some of this helps, most of these tips I pulled off of this site while I was still in the middle of I/C install cause I knew going in my car would overheat.

Good luck.

Seems I have got it solved by removing the weather stripping and changing the antifreeze mixture, now I have to remember to change it back come winter time or it will be
