ive been questioned quite a few times, on why was my 50 trim ported and clipped 15* My builder has worked years with turbonetics products and similar turbos. He recommended teh porting and clipping 15* to help spool up and top end. What do you guys think of this? Was this wrong and should i buy another wheel.

thanx

Your builder sounds like a moron. The clipping is going to ADD to the time it takes the turbo to spool up. We would also need to know who's 50 trim (Mitsu based or t3/t4) and what size housings are on the turbo. But for the most part, if you have a 50 trim wheel, you don't need to do any clipping to the turbine wheel. Clipping adds top end (but with a 50 trim, the turbine wheel should already be large enough to make enough top end hp), but at the expense of added lag.

Just leave everything the way it is and bolt it up.

Well clipping a wheel is supposed to help with topend and kill spool. Also topend and quick spool are two things that don't go together. A turbine housing and wheel that is bigger will provide more topend but spool slower. The opposite is true for small housings and wheels. Most people try to find a good compromise between the two.

oh well its already been done and been on the car for almost a year now, i figured what everyone would think.. I noticed a little better on bottom end, and spool sounded louder. Oh well thanx for the input guys.

Clipping is just a ghetto way to increase exhaust side flow when there is not a properly sized turbine wheel and/or housing avaliable. That may have been acceptable 5 years ago, but it certainly is NOT acceptable today.

It will slow down spool, and it will also decrease the efficiency of the turbine wheel.

Do you know which turbine wheel was used with your turbo?
