i couldn't find any place appropriate to post this but i'm tryin here. i have a motor swapped 91 ecclipse gs that looks like the biggest beater ever, so it's a sleeper even to people that know about these cars...let alone the people that don't. i want to keep it that way so a huge silver FMIC isn't not something on my list of things to get if i can avoid it.

Does anyone know where i can find a black FMIC? If they do make them, how are they made black, is it just black annodized or is it some sort of paint or what? More importantly would annodizing (or whatever method they used) make the ic any less efficient? I've tried the search function and it isn't stated anywhere what it IS....just what it might be. any help would be appreciated on what exactly it is and if it's something more complicated than annodizing the aluminum, where i can get ahold of whatever coating is used.

I had my IC paited before. It's the end taks that take the most paint. The fins don't require much. Radiators are usua;lly painted so I feel a light coat, enough to "stealth" it would not decrease cooling to a great degree. On the other hand you prpbably line up side to side at lights so your opponent would not care/know anyways. So I would keep it stock myself, Mark

this has been covered in a lot of threads. everyone has differing opinions on how paint or anodizing will affect the heat transfer.

There is one answer that is for sure....no questioning, it is for sure. go to a ceramic coating place and they can put on a thermal coating that helps dissipate heat. It may not help you very much, but it WILL NOT HURT THE IC EFFICIENCY.

yah...i'd seen it posted and i'd seen opinions...but i wanted to know if anyone knew for a fact one way or the other what would or would not affect heat dissipation. you guys answered my questions...thanks...

we may line up side by side, but you talk shit about their ride in the parking lot where they can get a good look at yours. ;)

i can't man...lost the #3 piston ring....and i figured...well...if i'm going to pull the bottom end...i might as well replace it with some forged shit ;) should have it back together the end of this month...and it's stayin in my moms garage till i get it running again...so i'll be back up here soon to work on it

I bought a fmic off of an Audi 5000, and it came from the factory with a coat of black paint on it.
