use the search feature man .. I saw an exact post like this like 2 days ago. You need to make or buy a special spring compressor since most normal spring compressors won't fit our heads. Go to www.vfaq.com and look around on there. It will answer all of your questions.

aight ill try that...
in the chiltons manuel it has an exact pic? so yea

I ran into the same thing when I rebuilt my engine. It's hard to find a spring compressor that will work, So I just welded one up.

Just pick up an inexpensive C clamp from Harbor Freight or the like, I used an 8" one.

Pick up an inexpensive 5/8" deep socket and cut the center out of it like the pix shows.

Weld or have it welded onto the end of the C clamp as shown in the pix. Your in bzness.

This worked great for me. :thumb:

I got to looking at the compressor after I posted above. The C-clamp was from Harbor Freight and says 8" on it but is probably more like 8.5 - 8.75"clamping distance. I don't remember how much extra room it had and you might need that extra 1/2 - 3/4 " So I would allow for that extra length. :laser:
