i like the thermal catback but they dont make a downpipe to go with it. i was wondering how well the RNR 3" o2 eliminator dp would work with it and how well they fit together. thanx

I have the road race engineering downpipe. It's 2.5" to the flex section, then a 3" flex section, then a 3" pipe. Then I have both the 3" cat and 3" testpipe that I can swap either in. Then I got a 3" flange from road race too. Took my car to an exhaust shop, and they cut the 2.5" thermal neckdown off, and welded the 3" flange onto the thermal so it would mate up with the end of the tp or cat (both ended at the same place). It's a very nice setup; I like it a lot, and love the thermal.

are you planning on running a cat or not?
Do you prefer full 3 in system or will a 2.5 system be fine for you.
I have some suggestions but answer these first.

edit.....hahahahaa
you beat me to it.^^^^^^^^^was going to be my suggestion.
I'm also using the RRE downpipe.....awsome quality and even after this past winter, it still looks good. The only difference is that I'm using the N1 cat back

so the RRE will match up to the thermal perfectly, as far as where they meet is concerned? The only thing that needs to be done is welding on the 3" flange?

yes
you have several ways to do it.

The only thing that throughs things off is cutting off the neck down piece. Thats easily corrected though with a add on to the pipe.

If you buy the RRE cat elim DP:
On the thermal. Cut the necked down piece off and have a 3in exhaust pipe welded onto it the same length as the piece you cut off. Add a flange also(at the same angle as the original). The RRE with then match up perfect.

or

If you buy the RRE DP made to attach to a cat.
On the thermal. Cut the necked down piece off and add a flange. Then make a test pipe from the RRE to the Thermal. That way if you ever need a cat, you can put one in there.

Hope that helps
and if anyone thinks I missed something, please add to it.
Don't get me started on RNR(pm if you want details. If not I will not put them in public)

I prefer my second way

i will assume u do not like RNR, and i can prolly guess some of the reasons why as i read more about them.

Thank you for the help, i will consider that combo

If you get the road race downpipe, and their cat or testpipe option, you don't need any more piping to connect the end of the RRE tp or RRE cat to the thermal. The end of the RRE tp or cat extends past the 2.5" neckdown of the thermal, into the 3" area. So all you need to do is cut it at the overlap spot, and weld up a 3" flange to the thermal. This is how it was for me.
