I finally changed the lifters out for 3gen ones and sweet God!!!! It is finally here-silence!!! It wasn't too hard, but wasn't fun either. I have to also thank "team" carly for their help. DSMtuners.com members have to watch out for eachother.

I will be posting step-by-step pix and instructions on the tech forum as soon as I can. I will also be doing the same for i.c. cleaning and a screen mod to the fender where i.c. air comes out towards the tire.

Quite the day yesterday and I just had to share the ecstatic feeling of getting rid of that damned lifter lick.

Here's to helping future generations of DSM owners (1g) that have lifter tick: there is hope and my tech article will be your Jesus. (okay, a little over-zealous).

Take care all,
Boz :thumb:

Did you have to take off the timing belt and cams to do this, or did you do it without removing that stuff?

I really, really would have like to take off the belt and cams, but I chose not to. My timing was fine so I didn't want to mess with anything.

I popped off the rockers one by one and made a grid on a cardboard box that gave me a 'map' as to where each rocker went (I'm pretty anal and this allowed my to put each rocker where it came from).

Then, if the lobe of the cam was making popping the rocker off difficult, I cranked the engine from inside the driver's side wheel well to get the lobe out of my way.

Once I popped the rockers off, the soaked the new lifters, put the end of the rocker on the valve spring, padded the spot I was using for leverage for the pry bar, slowly pried up, and slid over until the rocker popped onto the lifter. Most of the time I would then have to slide the rocker up to finish popping on.

I also did an oil change 15w50 Mobil1 with DSM filter and so far sweet, sweet silence.

The tech will come soon....

Thanks for the info man. I've had ALL the maintenance done to my car, including my timing belt that was just done last week and was hoping it wouldn't have to be taken off, after I spent all that money at the dealer to get it replaced. I'll probably do my lifter late August. Thans again.
