Hey all i am looking into getting a 4g63t engine for my 99 eclipse GS and i was wondering if it is actually worth doing the swap...or whether its more effective to just get a turbo for my 420A. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The above link from cold and afraid pretty much says it all. I was in your same situation with a 420a, and all my friends had turbo eclipses. So I bought a whole tubo kit for it, then realizing I would not be able to run much boost on stock internals and also not knowing how well it would be able to hold boost on a 80k mile engine. I then just sold it all and went with an awd eclipse. Saved me alot of time and money becuase alot of the little mods were already done from previous owner. Also if anything breaks I have alot more parts readily available since im working with the 4g63. But if you have the time and money you can make anything fast! Good luck with your ride :thumb:

I looked up the Hahn Turbos and i like what i see except for one thing. It showed the base Stage one turbos only running 5-7 psi and the stage II running 8-10...is this not a little low? Dont most people run abbout 12-15 psi?? Why would someone spend so much for so little boost?

It's that low for the reasons stated by FastEclipseGSXT and in the link posted by Coldandafraid. Also, most people that buy tubo kits for there 420a aren't about to tear down the whole motor and build it the right way to support forced induction. Personally, I don't think it's worth doing either of the options you mentioned when you could go out and buy a used car already built to support your needs and wants.

Engines running higher compression can't run high boost as easily as engines with lower compression. 5 to 8 psi will make enough power on a non turbo engine. Its alot different for us 4g63 guys. Hope this helps. -Matt :dsm:

the ring lands in a 420a give out at about 10psi or higher, there too shallow, and if you can make it past there, the rods break around 13-14psi, deffinatly build it if you plan on making alot of power, my friend has an RS-T and hes running 8psi on stock internals, spearco 2-216 core, t3 super 60 trim, stock injectors with a 12:1 disk and he ran a 14.6 with a sticking injector, there deffinatly quick when u know what your doing, but 8-9psi is its limits.
