A guy I know said he would sell me a big 16g and 7cm housing for $250, the problem is it's been clipped, how will the clipping affect the boost and overall power, will I gain take off power and loose top end or what.

Doe sthis sound like a good deal(spins normal and no shaft play)

I have all supporting mods(I think) except can't get logger to hotsink yet. I have been happy with my 14b power latley but it has developed a boost leak around the o-ring insiade the turbo itself, so I need a new turbo anyway.

My biggest question is will I loose power with this 16g over a good 14b, should I just find another 14b(I can get a perfect one for $100).

Hey bob 250 sounds a little iffy like there may be a problem with it . They go for 450 on the trader. I just recently picked up a BR B16g P/C with 500 miles/1 month on it with the recipt and thats what I got the guy just decided to go to a 50 trim.
I have been doing some reserch on the clipping and from what I have read its not a bad modification on a B16g. Guys have told me that you will barely notice the 500 RPM lag diffrence but the top end is more noticeable.
You get what you pay for unless you know the guy and know what the turbo has been thew.

I would say no if it was an online deal, but if it's local and you actually know this guy.. go take a look at the turbo.

check for shaft play, visually check the compressor wheel
take of the v band clamp [1 10mm bolt ] and look at the turbine wheel
make sure the wheels are not hitting the housing at all
make sure there is no OIL anywhere it isn't supposed to be

other than that.. clipping decreases lag but offers more top end. if all 4 above steps check out good. then i say go for it

The guy that has it also has another turbo besides the big 16g, he knows it came off a 1g dsm, a local guy that use to build race engines with the FFWDconnection guys gave it to him to hang onto , and a few days later he died racing his dsm, it is supposed to be a bad ass turbo, but I do not know enough anout them to go for that one(besides it's kind of creepy), he had traded the big 16 for some work he did on a honda, that is what he does, but drives a dsm, he says his 14b and the stage3 head from BJ's is more than enough for him.

I think I will do it, I really want more top end anyway. Thanks :thumb:
