Hey guys I have a 1997 eclipse gst automatic, and my take off is real sluggish unless I power brake and launch it. Is that the normal way a stock auto gst is, or is there something wrOMG?
By the way How can I improve my out the hole acceleration?

Its turbo lag dude. When you powerbake, you build much more boost to start with.

I know the car has turbo lag, but lets say for instance I floor it with out building up any boost whatsoever. The car takes off real lazy. I think something may be wrong because without the boost a galant can jump me out of the hole with no problem. Is there a way to increase my acceleration out the hole with out building boost?

i habe yhe talon tsi auto
the only way to take of really fast is braking and full gas to 2500 rpm no more no less and then you habe full acceleration if you pass rpm the torque convertidor work bad and you lose power
try it and teel me

Dude, when you floor it, you dont have any boost to add power. The time between you pushing the pedal and boost building up is called turbo lag. Thats why you need to create boost by powerbraking. If you are going from a roll, then you need to downshift. An n/a galant has no turbo lag so as soon as you push the pedal, the engine is making a respectable amount of torque. Remember that, even though both cars have 4 cylinders, you are pushing about 8.5:1 compression while the galant has about 10:1 (im guessing) so until that turbo kicks in, he may have the edge. You just gotta get used to driving a turbo car.

plz no flaming i know this may be a noob question is power braking the same as e-brake? i also have the same lag & at how should i launch? ps.. my autotranny was rebuilt and has shift kit & aftermarket torque converter

powerbraking and e-braking arent the same. ebraking locks up your back wheels, causing you to do a burny. powerbraking is when you put one foot on the brake pedal and one on the gas, and push both in.
