Question: What is the hype on the 2.3 stroker? I havent heard too many issues relating to why a 2.3, actually I have heard more negative feelings towards doing a 2.3. I guess the question is is it worth it? Is anyone you know/self running it?

If you have a 6bolt, there is a company that has packaged the Rods, Pistons, bearings, rings and crank for a little over 1000 bux, all forged stuff. Not bad IMO...

Whats this company? Pm me if needed.

The kit looks good. Its an extra $800-900 if you want a new crank and crower rods. Im still thinking about doing this myself for my galant, after I get rid of the talon of course. There a tons of topics on this and I have read some horror stories. I think its because of the engine builder though, not the crank and what not. Correct me if Im wrong though.

as long as its built right i think the only "concern" would be the increased pressure on the drivetrain with the boost in torque...more torque is the last of my concerns though :D

i dont really see any downside to it if you are rebuilding the motor anyways..its not much more at all to do a 2.3l if you are planning on doing a built 2.0l anyways

Im not worried about the tranny end I believe TRE can handle what I want done. They have a monster tranny for 3K. Only thing is I am a bit affraid of sending in the switchable tranny.....

Yeah but that price!?!?! I found a complete 6Bolt for 100 bucks, bad head but eh who cares.

then what exactly are you worrying about..

i'm just finishing my stroker here. it should be done in the next week or so, all i have to do is wait for the head to get finished. i'll post another reply in a week or so and tell you how its doing. but i'm expecting huge gains :thumb: or so i've been told thats what i get. just in case you were wondering i got my kit from mike at dss

thanks for the time

U know what if youre still worried , just get the magnus motorsports dogmission, loud but unbreakable.

What would be a good turbo to match with this kind of motor? Im thinking a small 50 trim so you can get really quick spool and great top end pull.

Im doing the 2.3L in a galant that I will be using for road racing and auto-x for fun. No drag racing here. Any suggestions on a good turbo for me?

Sorry for hi-jacking.

yeah just a $4400 base price too, why not get one :p

So you gona turbo your Galant because i have a galant also and i am very confuse if i should sell it or not. There is this nice Plymuth Laser RS but its auto but it looks so hot. Too bad i cant get it now since am going to my country  its only $1500 with 97k on it

good luck with the galant doing auto-cross.....man i tried using my handbrake in U-turn from highway almost went flying into the dealership...i saved it but was very scared and i never dare do it again....my gal sucks

waiting time on the kit is only so long because of the Wiseco pistons. The new coating is taking forever for them to get done because they send their pistons to another company.

My 2.3 kit will be here Wensday ( 6/16/2004 )

1050$ for crank, pistons, rods, every thing you need for a basic short block 2.3. I know one of the guys that works at carshop. i trust this kit, and i know if i have any problems with it prior to installation i will be able to send something back and get a replacement.

this kit is Easily capable of 550-600 hp ( just judging from others that have built strokers already )

This 2.3 kit of mine will be going in a 91 Eagle talon TSI awd. I expect no problems from installation..

all that has to be done to install the crank into the block is grind the end caps half way ( the parts that connect the two end caps together ) and grind down part of the block in the #3 piston area. other than that nothing else, then bore .040 for the pistons and Wala

I don't really know if I'd rather rev a little higher than have 15% more displacement.

Also, don't beat me for this, but I can't help but think that stroking is just not really DSM style. We have 2L of displacement to make use of. Trying to squeeze out 0.3L more is like desperately trying to get closer to the big-boy V8s. Sure, the stroking gives good results. So does going with a big engine in the first place. Don't get me wrong - I'd probably build a stroker eventually too, it's just that it "feels" kind of wrong, and I'm not usually one to say something like that.

I understand what your saying but face it "there is no replacement for displacement". Four cylinders lack torque, whats wrong with adding a little?

rev higher eh? The 2.3 and 2.4 have gone 8500-9000 on serious drag cars, and to 7500+ on many people's street cars. How high are you going to rev? 10k  More displacement will make more power throughout the power band, it will spool up your turbo faster, or you can run a larger turbo. There is a reason the "big-boy V8s" go with more displacement, its better. If having a bigger motor is "wrong" go buy a 1.3l geo metro.

Its real simple a motor with more displacement will make more power *everytime*. I don't give a shit what people have done with a 2.0L dsm motor, more inches= more HP

Yeah and the extra .3L will allow you to run a much bigger turbo. But then again, if youre putting a huge turbo and a 2.3L in it, you WILL have to upgrade the drivetrain. Basically 2.3L=

*Faster Spool Up (run a bigger turbo....duh)
*No Crankwalk (or less crankwalk...I dunno)
*More Power (theres no replacement for displacement  )

TRE built my switchable. Works well.
