Rebuild or swap?

I have a 1995 Talon TSI AWD with a 6bolt 4g63t in it. Long story short, after fixing many miscellaneous problems I was boosting and it was good for a day or so. Now when I drive the car, even if I just gas it a little, oil comes out of the dipstick. I did a search on the forums, and it seems like this is a common problem. I doubt its my dipstick cap that's loose, since the oil comes out pretty fast. My mechanic says its because my piston rings are bad, and I'll need a new short block. Now money is a factor, but it seems like a swap would be cheaper at this point and getting another 6-bolt won't gauarantee the motor will last long since they are all used. Should I just bite the bullet and pay for a rebuild to make sure its done right, or just go for the swap from a reputable engine dealer. So far my options are order a short block from mitsu and just swap that, exchange the engine at roadrace, rebuild the engine at roadrace, or wait for more money and upgrade internals while I'm at it. Let me know what you guys think.

It depends on what your goals are with the car.. You are going from, getting a used engine, to getting a rebuild to forged internals. Dont spend $$$$ if not necessary , what are your goals ??

I was in a similar situation, it depends how long you can have your ride down. It makes it so much easier to not rush and find the best deal out there whether it be a great deal on internals for a rebuild or a cheap shortblock that is still running strong. Rather than trying to get it back up in a week and overpaying. If you get a jdm, watch out for mitsuparts and osaka jdm in canada, they dont take the engines back if their bad no matter what their website says, I learned the hard way. :dsm:

I would think that since you already have a 6bolt that your most definitive answer would be a rebuild. You might very well be able to save some money and get another used 6bolt short block, but you seem to be worried about that since it would be used. Buying a short block from Satan :dsm: would probably be just as costly if not more than a rebuild. Not to mention even their blocks are remans. It sounds to me like you know what you should do. Only thing left is to decide if you want to go the built internals route and that is going to be completely dependant on your goals. :thumb:
