I have a 90 RS Turbo Laser. The motor went out so I put in a JDM motor back in the car ran great for almost 8 months a little bit of idle problems but nothing much. Then all of the sudden that car died at a stop. I started the car back up it took a few trys (almost like it was out of gas) it started back up and I got about 3 more blocks and it died again. I took it to the shop and they give me the whole story that they don't know what motor it is so they cannot run a diog on it. the mechanic says it's getting fuel but no spark I don't know what do do any ideas??? He said if I could figure what it came out of he might be able to run a diog on it but I really don't know. Any help would be great, thanks

It's a 4g63, there shouldn't be much complaining at the shop. More or less it's the same as the USDM engine. If I took it there, I wouldn't even say it had been swapped in. They're just bitching, take it somewhere else.

The people who did the swap said if I had it worked on to tell the place that it was a 4G63T motor because there are some things different.

you probably have a same version motor=6bolt same electric inductions,92up is diferent in elec. so it can be ,coil pack or losen contact ,wires, smal black box next on the timing =power tranzistor they go bad you just need swap them from your old motor then posily you have relays behaind radio check all this

Did you switch to your coil pack? When I did my swap I switched the intake manifold, thermostat and housing, CAS, coil pack, alternator, and ps pump. So the engine itself should be no different than a USDM engine. It should code no matter what because your harness is the same and there arent any different connections on the jdm if you swap over all your accessories.

The answer may have already been posted here, but I had the same problem after my JDM swap. I dropped a 91+ JDM spec motor in to my 1990 TSi after my stock motor died due to timing failure, and when I went to turn the ignition it just whirred at me. Wouldn't start.

Come to find out there wasn't any spark whatsoever, and after a very thorough search of the fuse boxes and electrical lines, I found it was my power transistor box to blame. I fiddled with it by pinching, wriggling, and all that good stuff, while someone else turned the motor over, and I got spark, and the engine fired right up. But it was still a damaged box, and I have a replacement on the way.

Check to see if that unit (the power transistor box) came loose.

In the swap, I needed to change the CAS, throttle body, thermostat elbow, coil pack, and power transistor box (usually found on or near the stock coil pack, or at least bolted on to the intake manifold).

Also, I have a question. Does your oil pressure guage work? I, and others, havn't been able to get the fuel pressure guage to work on a JDM swap. If so, could you call up the shop that did your swap, and ask 'em about it?

My oil guage doesn't work either the shop said that there wasn't a place to hook the guage back up to in the JDM motor. I'll try these things if anyone else has anything go ahead a let me know thanks.

yah, the jdm motor dosnt have a spot for the usdm sending unit, unless you swap oil filter housings to save yourself from running an external oil cooler ex. anyone above a 90 model, i on the other hand am lazy and just found a 90 and jacked the oil cooler, i had a problem with mine sparking as well, because of a ghetto rigged power transistor, that seems to be the most popular thing causing igniton problems, that and the coil pack. :dsm:

I ordered a ptu and a coil pack and still get nothing the car sounds like it wants to go the motor is moving and everything else comes on in the dash it just wont start. I called another shop they said they would work on it but it could take all day just for them to find whats wrong with it (at 56$ an hour thats not cheap) any more ideas???

Heres a tip when swapping motors. Pull all the shit off each motor so they're just a longblock. Then put all the parts on the longblock going in your car that match up with your wiring harness. Doesnt matter if its jdm, or just a year different than yours it should work just like you never took the engine out. (provided you're still using a 6bolt)

I finally got someone to work on the car and the comp. was bad sent it in and it was totalled so I'm getting a new one from an ECU shop in florida.
