i had an SST racing pipe {no MAS air.}
i have heard good things about the injen one
also the dejon like larry stated

dejon tool? yeah thats what ive been looking at but i dont know which is the best one to get. I imagine the installation isnt that hard either correct?

www.dejontool.com. $89.95 for the pipe, clamps, and hose connections. Plus you pick the color. I have done bus. with him a few times (I've bought 2 intake pipes and one LIP from him in the past). I have nothing but good things to say about him. Currently I am running the 1G to 2G MAS pipe. I love it. This is it.......

a "FULL" 3" intake pipe is a waste unless your turbo inlet requires it. I only run the 2 1/2" intake pipe (and I have a 20G). In other words, if you don't have a 3" compressor inlet, get the 2 1/2" pipe.

It's never a "waste" it's simply not an immediate neccessity. That's like saying a 3 inch exhaust is a waste. A 3inch pipe will make more power than a smaller pipe even on a 14b. On a larger turbo, for instance on this guy named Keith's car (white 2G '99, Mutt Lvl 6) going from the stocker to a 3 inch pipe picked up 30 horsepower to the wheels with no other changes. Just food for thought..

Regards,

A 3" is only a waste if you're not planning on getting a larger turbo with a larger compressor inlet. I built my own 3" intake out of black ABS drain pipe elbows. It works fine for me, and I was able to notice a difference in throttle response - of course I won't be able to take advantage of it and notice any significant power increase until I get a larger turbo.

The reason I haven't just bought the Dejon Tool intake is because I want to be sure what intercooler I'm going to run. I don't want to go out and buy an intake that won't work with the IC pipe routing... and I might end up routing my intake into the fender where the side mount IC currently resides. So I don't want to invest money into something that I may not need. $15 for a homemade version will do fine for me the time being.

dude cool air is *SO* important the cooler the air is to start with the less work the intercooler has to do in order to cool the compressed air back down. im going with the buschur 3" intake with a vpc here is a pic of where it puts the filter.

"waste" may have been the wrong word to use. UNNECESSARY may be the right term. W/o a 3" turbo inlet it is "unnecessary" to have a 3" intake pipe. Can one be used? Sure. W/ a 3" to 2-2 1/2" step-down silicone coupler it'd probably be just fine. I think it just depends on what turbo you are running. W/o a 3" inlet on the turbo a 3" intake pipe just isn't needed. The 2 1/2" dejontool intake pipes will start out at 3" and then taper down to 2 1/2" (on most of them I think). The one I had when I had my Blaha MAS did.

And Chris, you make an excellent point. Until you are sure what IC setup you are going to get then I would also recommend waiting to see how it would affect the fitment of the intake pipe (although I believe most of them will work w/ an IC piping setup like the Buschur or IRC). Don't quote me on that though, I have the RRE setup.

And NosLaser, I'm glad to see you are on this board now. I used to enjoy reading your posts on DSMTalk. You come off a bit "cocky" sometimes, but I like that :). Doesn't bother me one bit b/c you seem to almost always put out informative and helpful information. The more people we can get on this board w/ knowledge and experience the better it will be for everyone. No matter how much you THINK you know someone can always teach you something new. And that's what this place should be about. Teaching and learning. Helping each other out and having fun talking about what we love.....DSM's!
