Princeton,
I am starting to go through the turbo selection process. What do you think is the max boost I can run, fully intercooled and with plenty fuel on an 2g early 95, with 123k miles on it. Compression is still good. clutch has been replaced and tranny built.

ps. is it true that a bigger turbo makes more "effcient boost" even at lower boost levels then a smaller one at the same psi???

ahem if i may draw your attention to the top of this forum....Click Here

as far as efficiency I could A. spend an hour typing the physics of turbos, or B. tell you to go read Sport Compact a few months back which gave a laymans breakdown of turbos...

I'll choose B regis.......thats my final answer....

Hmm may I also suggest reading Aurthur Bells turbo book?

yeah but I really wanted to know how much boost the bottom end couuld take (this is intercooled and with plenty of high octane fuel). I'm thinking a max 23-25 psi for my motor.

Without flaming you, the single dumbest question anyone can ask about a turbo car is "So, how much boost are you running?" It's all RELATIVE!! That's like standing in front of a crowd and asking a collective question : "How tall is your aunt?" Everyone is going to have a different answer because some people have different genetics and are taller than others. How does this apply to turbos? I'll answer this playing Devil's advocate. "Sure, you can run 23-25 pounds of boost on that T25." -OR- "Sure, go ahead and run 23-25 pounds of boost on that T76." Do you see the difference? Do you understand the analogy? What turbo are you going to run? The amount of boost means NOTHING; it's ultimate airflow and cfm that you are concerned with, and ultimately, cylinder pressure. To answer your question, yes, the stock bottom end could hold 23-25 pounds of boost from a T25 (good luck getting it to boost there though without flinging itself off the car) but you may not be able to run 23-25 pounds of boost on a Green. A more intelligent question would have been "How much horsepower can the stock bottom end handle?" All these ridiculous boost questions further feeds my opinion that 85% of car people out there don't even know how a turbo focking works...

Regards,

Duh! I know how it works. I got a sweet looking cone-shaped thing attached to this big metal spirally thing that is attached to my engine. This adds like 20HP and makes the turbo sound super cool and work better. Then, when you step on the gas all the way, it makes a cool sounding whine, siound like wwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!, yo. This is the turbo making the car faster and sound cooler than when it isn't working. My 2 boost gauges in the car (I have 2 because I run MAD TITE BOOST YO) are pegged as high as they go because I pulled this hose my boy told me about so I can run insane boost. Sounds sweet and scares people when they roll up cause they will know yo ride is tite. Then, and this is the coolest part, when you get off the gas pedal, it goes psssshhhttt!! Awesome! Hahah. I do it right in people faces on the street and in the windows of cars passing me, just to scare the crap out of them. I even disconnected this tube attached to the thingy that goes psssshhhhtttt!!! just so it can go PPPSSSHHHTTT!!!! louder! I also heard that getting an exhaust tip that lights up helps the exhaust sound cooler and also helps the turbo make the car faster.

So see NosLaser.... I KNOW how a turbo works. Do you?

You forgot to put in the part about the flux capacitor and the chrome plated Frachmer valve.. See stupid??? You DON'T know how it works!!!!

:p :p

Regards,

Stupid? Me? Ha! You don't know me biatch! I'll beat you down!! I am all over turbos and I know how they work.
Besides, those are 2 options I didn't get because I was told they do nuttin but make the turbo cost more. Whose stupid now? You are!

 :p

Ya herd!??!!? I be chromin' my oWnZ frachmer valve beeeeeotch! I gakked the flux capacitor from my homie Michael J. and he don't even be missin it an sh!t. Now I gotz da bombest turbo wit da mad boost that be's oWnIn JoO fool!! I'll wax dat ass you be frontin' bout da beat down. Bring it on fo shizzie my nizzie an I'll git all dizzie up izzie dis hizzie fe fi fo fizzie!!! Ya herd???

 BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! You win! That is awesome! The best part is that after you read through all that jibberish, you come to nice and proper "Regards". :thumb:

By the way, F the whole turbo deal. Been done played out. My naws will own joo, NawsLaser.

okay I'm not some dumb ass kid. I did my own tranny rebuild in my garage and worked on cars for a while, life mostly chevys and fords but not much with turbo cars. but how much hp do you think the my 123K miles bottom end will hold up too, thank you for making a valid point about clynder pressure not boost psi, but you don't have such a dick about it.

My reply to you wasn't being a dick was it? Disregard all that other stuff..that was just some board regulars having some fun; nothing to do with you. Relax a bit, crack open a beer, learn and have fun!

Regards,

please note that just b/c your bottom end can handle this, doesn't mean your tranny will survive the battle.......to answer your next question before you ask it... the website is www.teamrip.com...... for the tranny upgrade/rebuild..... though nos can be slightly aggressive, he knows his stuff... thats why he was elected a wiseman... so somewhere in that hostility you will find the truth for which you seek.... ack im goin ghandi...ok time to end this......

I should point out that he meant Corky Bell's book titled "Maximum Boost."
