I have a big16G on my 1997 gst, and I recently installed a dp cutout from quicktime performance. Now i have an unrealistic amount of boost creep, and ive been told that i have to purchase an external wastegate or do the wastegate mod on my internal gate that I have now...

I plan on upgrading the turbo later, so I would like to go ahead and get an external wastegate... but im lost in all the talk of where it should be mounted. I know that there are 2 choices and I have chosen to mount it on the o2, but I need some help to choose the right one.

I have the stock o2 on the exhaust still but I have a apex n1 dp and muffler. What o2 housing can i use to simply bolt up the dp and not have to seriously modify anything? I want the external dump also... and I would like the wastegate to be a tial 40mm.

I also just recieved my camshafts and I would like to know if anyone in Houston knows of any good shops to install and tune my cams at.

You dont need an external using a b16g who ever told you that has no Idea. :thumbdown
As far as boost creep cure I would have had the turbo exhaust housing ported to 7cm as well as a 2g or evo manifold to match the 7cm, and added a 34mm flapper to get the gases out the wastegate faster curing your creep.
I would also recomend a 2.5" tubular (stainless perfered but not neeed) o2 housing. I recomend eather turbo trix or victory performance but they are costly at $300 but they will last a lifetime and will out flow any cast ported o2 housing.
To give you an Idea on why you have creep is that the exhaust you have (at the turbo) is not alowing it to escape fast enough out the wastgate and thew the system its backing up and just waiting to get out its like running full speed and then slowing down while someone behind you is pushing you faster. Exhaust flow is the critical piece of equiptment on a forced more for making good HP #s
The external WG is kickass if you can affford it but with the small turbo you have its just a waist of money. :thumb:

An external wastegate should fix the creeping. He already has a 2g manifold ( the car is a 97 ). A 34mm wastegate flapper and some porting is the easiest way to fix it.
 
True but I still would have the turbo exhaust manifold ported and 34mm if you plan on keeping the 16g but if you have the finances to support the mods for a bigger turbo in the future a external WG is the way to go by far. Victory sells a o2 housing that mounts a external 40mm and will fit your N1 down pipe.
The external will work fine with your 16g but you will need to adjust it when going to the bigger turbo is all. I think we nailed this
 
Thanks for all your help, you answered my question perfectly. I was under the impression that a big 16 was a decently sized turbo and is good in terms of upgrading.

Isnt it good for around 350 whp? I know thats about what i hope to achieve with the cams installed....

Unrealistic or what?
