Toronto,
I have about 140K on my talon, time for a rebuild.... any advise?... my goal is to make the engine like new, maybe a little stronger. Capable of handling a new T3/T4 turbo and running less than 18 lbs of boost. What kind of cams/cam gears, pistons and rods would be most durable to accomplish this?... any other advice? Let me know if I should post elswhere, this looked like the most appropriate forum.

Thanks

Since your a 2g and really want a rebuild it sounds like as well as extensively modify it. I would find a 6-bolt engine to rebuild. There is no point in puttin a lot of money into a 7-bolt when you can do it in a 6-bolt. With that out of the way, eagle rods, with your choice of pistons will be enough to handle whatever a t3/t4 can produce. The cheaper route would be 1990 big rods with 1995 pistons.

HKS cams would be the best option in either a 264/272, or straight 272's.

If you are going to do all of this work, why only run 18 pounds of boost when you can safely run 22+ on pump gas?

Get a Mitsu metal headgasket (MLS), some ARP headstuds, as well as a 6-bolt in a 2g kit.

Have fun with whatever route you chose.

There's no point in putting "a lot of money" into any 4g63.

What's the compression on the motor? It's probably fine.

Stock 6 bolt will take anything a t3/t4 will throw at it too. Stock 7 bolt will take most of a 60trim. What t3/t4 are you referring to? There's like 10 million.

Safely run 22psi? Where in the world are you getting these figures from?

How can you reccomend cams without knowing what type of driving he does or what turbo will be put on the car?

A stock engine can handle around 500hp, so decide if any upgrades are worth the bother. If theT3/T4 is an upgrade, I don't see much point in switching to an upgrade turbo if only running less than 18psi I think you need to use more of the search button before you use your wallet.

As far as the cams go I think he was just suggesting the usually recipie I dont think he meant to mislead him in anyway. I've heard the 6-bolt bump sticks were pretty good stock. I would go the route of 1g big rods and 2g pistons it's good enought for david buschurs stage 1 block upgrade.

Well i have a buddy who has a fully built 7bolt  (i know, he knows) he has turbonetics t3/t4 50trim , i forget what a/r it is, but hes doing 26psi with it and it makes me so jealous. He also has crowner stage 3cams i dont know the specs on the cams.
all i got to say that his car is an amazing piece of work....

So basicly its worth going to a 6-bolt?.... thanks for all the input.
